I get all the fjr bashing... don't mind, I'm cool.

But on the weight issue... hell it almost feels light compared to my old st1300! that fuckn' thing was a beast!! but I would prefer it to be lighter still.

I think we all know though, once these bikes get rolling the weight isn't really noticeable (but be damn careful when going slow or stopping!).

I agree with some of the others, compared to the ST1300 the FJR is a petite and nimble little thang.

That said, I think Yamaha will come out with an updated FJR within two years and it will be as big or bigger/heavier as the ST1300.

And that said.............. screw both of them..... I'm waiting on the new Triumph Trophy.

As it happens, so do I.  So I find it interesting that you don't have a negative option on your poll.  All of your answers are positive. So, you've constructed a poll where every answer is that the FJR would be a better tourer if it was "smaller" (whatever that means. Weight? Physical size? Both?). You haven't provided anyone the option of saying that a smaller FJR would be worse. You've essentially constructed a polls that assures you will get the answer you want.

In any event, it might be interesting to ask if the FJR could be smaller, and be the same bike.

Engine: 250lbs
Frame: 200 lbs
Wheels: 100 lbs
Fuel/Fluids: 50lbs
Bags: 15lbs
Fairings: 25lbs

So, we're at 640 lbs wet--about 40lbs shy of the actual weight--just in the weight of basic components.

Given an engine of a certain displacement, and a frame to support a certain gross weight, the bike's weight and size are pretty much a given, aren't they? So, where are your weight or size savings?

the FJR is perfect the way it is.I for one prefer a bigger bike,,, obviously considering both my street bikes are huge. I rode a friends 600 and it was way to small for me.. almost went for the Honda NV700T for commuting but couldn't wrap my mind around the lack of hp... very happy dragging my knee on the ST...

I don't think a bike has to be heavy to be a good touring bike. I don't get to take and real long trips like I want to, (not yet anyway) but I love spending all day in the saddle on my 919. It's a lot light than the FJR, even with my luggage fully loaded...

I had an FJR, I think it is one of the lightest for the catagory it sits in. Go ride a Triumph 1050ST, weighs a little less but more top heavy, ST1300..... Gaud you are doing leg presses, K1200gt... ok, I like em, but, not any better.


If you want a light FJR, go buy the fz6r, add bags and rewind the stator, then add a decent windshield, to be honest, it feels similar, just a little lighter. I know, I have one, and, had one.

Everyone is missing the real question. If it was lighter would it be as durable and bulletproof as it is now?  This year I've seen two FJRs with over 100K miles on them for sale. I haven't seen any other bikes with that kind of mileage on them for sale in this category. (Goldwings are NOT Sport-tourers).....

I would love to see an FJR, or Honda St as a 750.  For me, I really do not need the power the bigger motors (even if I do have a 1200 bandit) offer and do not plan on any 2up touring.  The lighter weight, better mileage and cheaper insurance would be great.
