I posted this on another forum, but thought it might be useful to post it here as well...

I fired up the Norge ('09, 4300 miles on ODO) yesterday morning and the red warning light came on after about 2-3 seconds. Several seconds later, the "service" prompt at the bottom of the screen came on and stayed on. I shut off the ignition. Fired it up again with same result. Let it sit for a minute or two, tried again same result, but I let it run for about 30 seconds--the red warning light and the service prompt went off. I rode all day long with several stops and the issue did not return.

Any guesses about what happened? How concerned should I be? The bike seemed to run fine--put in about 150 miles. Should I just continue to ride it? The nearest dealership is 250 miles away.

an update:

On the instruement panel, I went into "diagnostics" and then into "dashboard errors". There was an "X" under the M column for row 08, which I assume is db code 08, indicating a problem with oil pressure. However, the oil-can icon, the priority warning for low oil pressure, never came on.

Can anybody help with interpretation?

Thanks,

I think there was an explanation on GuzziTech for another Norge that had a sensor flash this code. Your bike is new and under warranty, I would also give the shop a call and let them give you some advice on options too.

Good luck.

Had you recently wahed the bike or ridden in the rain. Almost certainly the oil pressure switch BUT if your Norge is an early one with an '07 build date I would STRONGLY advise getting the oil pump checked as well as  a few early norges had oil pump outer rotors that broke up.

Pete,

It had been at least a week since I had ridden in the rain and then washed the bike.

The oil-can icon never came on.

I went into the diagnostics section of the dashboard, using access code 28315. Under dashboard errors, there was an "X" under the "M" column on the row for db error 08.

I have ridden the bike 3-4 more times since this happened, and neither the red warning light nor the "service" prompt came on.

The Norge is an '09, VIN = ZGULPU0069M114524

If its an '09 you're well outside the troublesome range. It's almost certainly the ender. Bit of a pig to get to on a Norge but cheap.
