I checked the Diavel out.  It is sweet.

Seems to me the complainers are not in the market for any new bike over $5K anyway...

Kinda like me beeyotchin over the latest Lambo..

Badass bike but not my Multistrada 1200

Saw one in Portland with a set of termi's on it blew my mind at idle! Sounds way better than any other duc IMO. The bike is very maneuverable and fast. Alas it doesn't have the suspension comfort or quite as maneuverable as the Multistrada 1200 and NO SADDLE BAGS Blows my mind as to how many peops prefer to backpack needlessly on a motorcycle. Fuck that!! Other than that I would buy one.

I was told by a Ducati rep at the Birmingham (UK) motorcycle show last year that Ducati intend to use the Diavel as a basis for more models, possibly including a sport-tourer to replace the ST series. I could live with a Diavel with hard bags and more weather protection. We can but hope....

RESURRECTION TIME:

HAd some road time on a Diavel this weekend.  Not enough to test it thoroughly, but included some highway time and some back road time, maybe 25-30 miles.

Wow!  I loved it.  From the saddle, it reminded me of a Bimota DB6 Delerio on steroids, because of its ergos (really similar, but much more comfortable due to room for your 'boys' between the legs), similar power delivery and musical exhaust.

Also reminded me of my Tuono - wide bars with amazing responsive steering.  I didn't expect the thing to lumber around corners, but MAN it was responsive.

Pretty smooth too - shifting OK, love the little colored screen on the tank, though it's a bit low.

What else stuck with me...loved the smooth power.  I think it was in sport mode, with traction set to 1, so I took it easy off the line and when laying on the throttle to pass on the dotted yellow sections.

Smoother than I expected.

The passenger pegs are big levers that fold right up.  No trouble with the kickstand (thought I read something about it once).

What a comfortable and POWERFUL bike?  While smooth, it's power definitely had more of a punch compared to the smoothness of, say, a K1300S or Busa.  This thing wants to rock.  Spent most of the time between 40-80 and it seemed happiest in 3rd gear.

Great clutch, great brakes, suspension was a bit stiff for me (needed to be set, stiff even for the owner who has about 25-30 lbs on me).

Looks are subjective, but objectively this is a VERY capable, comfortable bike.  I get why they call it a cruiser.  You sit low, the bars are pretty high and you are in an easy upright position, feet slightly forward, somewhere between forward and mid controls.  Kind of like a GS, with the feet a little forward, but your ass is MUCH closer to the ground.  

Really liked it.  Like a laid back Ducati Street Fighter with more torque, although the laid back comment is more related to the ergos than the engine.  This bike is a beast of an engine.

Overall, liked it a lot, does exactly what it's supposed to.  Would have liked to play with the settings and maybe beat on it a little more, but it's only got 650+ miles, and I just didn't have the time.  Anyone who rides this thing will love it.  Like a naked powerful twin (street fighter / tuono / DB6 Delerio) but less like a giant super-motard and more of an easygoing seating position.  The wide bars are similar to both the street fighter and Tuono, and it's almost as angry, but it's just more comfortable and easy to ride.  Not much, but a little less angry than my old Tuono.

Looked at one today as well as the Street fighter.  $18K  

Although I not had one before, I see a Duc of some type in my future.

They had an '08 HM that was pretty cool as well.

Lots to love in red these days if you have the big cash.
