I considered calling up the dealer and being like WOW I HEARD YOU HAVE A RARE VFR, but decided that it wasn't even worth my time to ridicule them.

C'mon be fair to that dealer.  That bike is as popular as week old sushi so he has to try something, some BS, to get interest in the bike.
And he's right, it is rare....
