Motels in Alpine TX?
«
on:

been out to Alpine a couple of times and have stayed at the Holland Hotel downtown and it was good.
Heading out there the end of the month to go to Big Bend.
Not looking for the cheapest or the most expensive but will look at all.
Anyone have recommendations for motels they have stayed in in Alpine?

I've only stayed at the Best Western (several times) but while you're in Alpine take a visit to the Museum of the Big Bend on the Sul Ross University campus.
http://www.sulross.edu/museum/
The company I used to work for before I moved to Amarillo designed, built and installed the exhibits in it. There's even a couple of my photographs in there.

I like the Antelope Lodge on the west end of town. Funky little individual cabin-like rooms. It was worn but clean when I stayed there last but I understand that they have done some refurb work in the recent past.
The museum is a worthwhile stop - it's a lot nicer (and bigger) than when I was a freshman at Sul Ross in 1975.

If you haven't taken in the Star Party at the McDonald, do yourself a favor and do so. My sons and I attended while on our trip to the area in August. One lives in New Jersey and the other in San Francisco and they had never been anywhere that was as dark as that area of Texas...and it was a new moon to boot. They were stunned by the night sky. I've been to at least a dozen over the years and I'm still awestruck by the immensity and sheer beauty of the slice of galaxy that we can see.

They're just as good down in the park.

we ended up staying in the Sunday House Inn on the east side of Alpine and it was good.
Very reasonably priced ($66/night) and comfortable rooms right next to a bar and restaraunt.
The motel is a little older but no issues and plenty of hot water and a/c units were quiet with cable tv on a flat screen.
Breakfast in the morning was included.
Check them out when you go out that way.

+1 for the Antelope Lodge!. if your in a group the central courtyard makes for a nice gathering spot. the staff even brought in some wood to burn for the fire pit.
