Did you get a decent deal on your bike?  I understand that BMW dealers don't offer big discounts off MSRP like Japanese bike dealers do, but I'm not sure what to expect when I start talking to local dealers about buying a 2011 K1300S.  It seems like dealers don't have a ton of inventory lying around when it comes to this model, but every dealer in my area has at least 1-2 (1 in the color/options I want) and since it's not a new model I can't imagine that people are lining up to get one.  I don't want to pay MSRP, but I'm not expecting to get one for thousands under sticker either.

The dealer closest to me basically told me that I'd be paying MSRP and they'd give my a discount on accessories, but at this point I still have my FJR and I didn't talk to him seriously about it (it was in the parking lot after a test ride, and I told him I wasn't ready to buy).

Did you get a decent deal on your bike?

Yes on the one I bought new (K1200RS). It was the last year of production and BMW was offering incentives to move them. When I looked at R1200GSs, there was very little discount because there was huge demand for them. The law of supply and demand rules. There's usually zero discount on 12GS Adventures.

Have you seen this?

Unless you are buying a model year closeout, don't expect to get a deal.  BMW North America control the pricing very closely and manage the discounting through the use of approved bike incentives.  Usually twice a year, BMW put out a list of bikes with promotions.  Many times the promotions are about getting hardbags and a gps for free.  That sorta thing.

My 1200GS was a leftover '09 which they listed at $1000. off msrp. I was able to bump them up a few bucks on my trade in and got a discount on the bags. BMW does offer favorable interest rates if you have a high credit score so over-all you can negotiate a pretty good deal but they're not going to fire sale anything.

When I purchased my 09 RT, the dealer knocked off $1000 from the msrp without me asking.  Then he discounted the new large top case by 10% as well.  I was satisfied with the deal.  Not as good as you can find with other manufacturers, but ok by me.  Based on your profile, you are not near Chicago BMW, but they pretty much offer the same deal to everyone.  (although probably a smaller discount for the smaller bikes).

Dangermoney,

Thanks, but I cringe at the idea of buying a demo sportsbike that people were allowed to take home and flog on Palomar Mountain for over 2,000 miles.  A GS, okay, but a demo K1300S/S1000RR would be used and abused I think.

BMW-K,

Is the incentive list constant?  Meaning, can I ask a dealer when the K1300S is going to be available with free BMW hardbags, that sort of thing?  Or do you just have to get lucky and hope the bike you want pops up on a factory promotion when it's time to buy?  That would interest me, seeing as the factory bags aren't cheap and eventually I'll probably want a set to keep in the garage for the occasional overnighter.

Stevent,

I've got a high credit score, but I am not planning on financing the bike so a low interest rate doesn't entice me like a discount does.

I talked to a guy locally who sold his 2011 blue/white/black loaded K1300S with 600 miles on it (I was too late), and he said he paid just under 20 OTD at Long Beach BMW.  I'm not any good at math, but with local tax/title/license fees that works out to a decent discount seeing that MSRP is about $19,300.  I'd be satisfied with that sort of deal, moreso if they offered me a trade-in value for my FJR that didn't make me laugh and I could stop waiting around to sell it private party.

Oh, and it's very important that I get a deal on this bike, because I need to buy a Leo Vince carbon fiber slipon and some carbon fiber bits from Pirate's Lair  Bigok

When I bought my K13S, I watched the incentives for awhile, but it was mainly better finance rates or discounts for stuff that BMW NA wanted to move. For the K13S, that meant $1500 off -- of the previous year's model. My dealer didn't have any year old inventory.

No regrets, though. It's a great bike.

I dunno if I would buy any demo bike again based on my experience.  I bought a Wing 1800 demo, had maybe 500 miles on it.  Nothing seemed off with the bike, until I rode a buddy's same year 1800.  His was much quicker.

Of course this could be mfg tolerances etc, butt still it was off putting.

I buy used bikes, but that's because I make sure the price is much less than dealer demo (if available).

I bought a new 2010 K1300GT last year.  I just looked at my invoice and they reduced it by a whopping $285.00.   Lol

The way I see it is that BMW considers itself to be a high end manufacturer and if you want one of their products you have to be prepared to pay a premium.

Nate--

There are many low mileage one owner K1300's out there. The typical BMW owner is nuts about taking care. Why not save 4 or 5 thousand on your new to you bike?

Where are these K1300s one-owner, low mileage examples?  eBay turns up a couple bikes, I found exactly zero on Cycle Trader within a 50 mile radius here in SoCal.

The one I found on the K-Bikes forum was local, 600 miles, exact color/options I wanted, could have saved thousands, but I was too late.

Are you open to a short fly and ride ? How about a 200 mile drive? You will need to expand your selection process. I will do a search and post some links for you. Good luck with your search.

Nate-- heres one that you might consider on a shipping basis. Just add 500 to your total cost. In either case it will give you some info on what they are selling for and good general knowledge.

One more time. There is a 2010 on this page. A little high on the asking price. But this is a good website to check weekly.

I actually think that's a decent price if it's fully loaded.  There's only 3k miles on the bike, and you can probably get him to drop the price another $500-1k

I just bought a 2010 R1200GS, for $4,000.00 off list.  It has 350 km on the clock.  I asked the salesperson what gives?  She said, BMW does not want to reduce the price on year end bikes, so they take a new bike, send it home with a representative, or other employee for the weekend, and then sell the bike as 'used', thereby getting around the expectation that year end bikes are discounted.

My recommendation with all things BMW is buy used.  I bought a R1200S (2007), with the candy cane paint, wide back tire, ohlins, heated grips, abs, in 2008 for $1195.00 which was just a bit more than half retail ($23,600 as outfitted).  That bike had 2,600 km.
