Got this advertisement in my inbox.  Buy one of the Triumph little cruisers (09-10, not the revised 11 model), ride it for a year, and don't suffer any depreciation!  Trade it for the full-paid price in a year's time, as long as you get a Rocket, Tbird, Sprint or Tiger 1050.

This way they are nearly selling you two bikes with the purchase of one.  I suppose the higher price of the future bike helps pay for the depreciation on the little cruiser.  It still seems like quite a bit of money that they are covering with this promo.

Didn't Harley have a similar promo before?  Seems like a good method for sales.

That is an awesome deal.  I think I do remember Harley having a similar deal.  Something like, if you buy a Sportster, you can trade up to a big bike in a year.

One could then infer the Tiger 1050 might be around a bit longer than rumors have led us to believe...i.e., no big 1200 cat until at least 2013.

While that's possible, I don't think it's a sure thing that the 1200cc Tiger would be a direct replacement to the 1050.  It could compliment it within the range, having three available Tiger sizes.  We'll have to wait and see.  Shrug

Wow, that would be a great scenario to have the 1200 as a compliment. I hope you are right, Alex. I could see them keeping the 1050 as the bigger road bike and possibly creating a 1200 GS competitor.

With Triumph tradition, if they do roll out a 1200, they'll have one model that's currently on the 1050 platform run a few more years on the 1050, just to burn off stock and tooling, and the Tiger seems to be the Huckleberry of choice for that in the past.

The Tiger was 885cc for several years after the 955 was released for the Daytona/S3/Sprint, and it was 955cc for a couple years after the 1050 S3/Sprint was released.

Just like the 1050 Tiger was not produced until 2007, when the 1050 S3 and Sprint debuted in 2005.   However, that doesn't explain the Tiger 1200 spy shots.  My guess is that a shaft-driven Tiger 1200 and Trophy 1200 will both debut simultaneously, perhaps even in 2012.

"Didn't Harley have a similar promo before?"

Do you think this may be related to the fact that the new CEO came from HD?   If he thinks he can market Triumphs like they sell Harleys, I think he's in for a surprise.

On the surface, this may seem a good deal, but who would buy an America if they really want a Tiger, Sprint, Rocket, etc?  A TBird?  Maybe.

I would like to hear a dealer's perspective.

Thanks, slvrsprint - I didn't know the new NA Triumph CEO was formerly with HD!  That does help place this new promo in context.  I agree he is not going to be able to sell Triumphs the same way he sold HD's.  It will be interesting to see how he changes NA Triumph.

I see this promo as mostly targeting new cruiser riders who want to start small but build up to a Tbird or Rocket.  It's nice they give the option for Tiger or Sprint upgrades, but I would guess few participants will choose them.
