Have a 20 year old Suzuki that needs a thorough going over. Anyone know a good wrench in the Longmont area that has reasonable shop rates?

Thanks,

Is Golden too far? TFOG always comes highly recommended. Not sure how there shop rates compare, but they should be close to the average stealer.

I was thinking Joe (Loveland) or Carl (Longmont) would chime in.

Here's some info Joe sent to me a few years back regarding finding a place to put on a tire...
(Fort Collins area)

Ray's Cycle on Drake (west of Taft Hill behind the RV place on south side of
Drake) is good, Beemers & More http://www.beemersandmore.com/ is also good.
If they already have tires, then Barry Messenger blmcycle@netzero.net
970-484-2972 home is probably the least expensive, and a good guy to know
(he used to work for BMW/Ducati)- he just operates out of his garage now,
word of mouth. Good work, very fair pricing for most anything at all.

Thank you Jim and Justin. I was hoping Carl would poke his head in but no biggie. TFOG sounds like a good bet. Going to give them a call Monday and see what they can do with the budget I have to work with. Thanks again for the help!

Don't know about Longmont, but if you're willing to come down to Denver, check out Supertune Motorsports. The owner, Mike, is a good friend of mine and the only person I would let touch my bikes. He's meticulous, does great work, and most importantly, honest.

Thanks for the recommend. I called him and after telling him what's going on I dropped the bike off there yesterday. Hopefully have it back in a weekend or two.

Another recommend for Supertune... I have a 98 VFR and a 73 CL350 and his team KNOWS how to work on them... I don't feel comfortable rolling those into the dealer, not that they take anything over 10 year old anyways... I've know Mike for 10 years, very trustworthy, is know for suspension tuning and rebuilding and engine tuning... fantastic shop...

What kind of bike is it?  I've an 82 GS650.  Only 1 place here in town will touch it.  Cycle shops here won't touch my 88 BMW either to even mount the tires!

What did you need doing to it anyway?  Be curious about the shop fees.  There is a small shop here that specializes in older bikes.  They wanted something stupid like $600-1000 to tear the motor apart to replace the gaskets.  The high end was the estimate if it needed any other work on the internals.  That's more than the bike itself if worth.

So, on the Suzi I do the work myself with the help of my other forum (www.thegsresources.com).  There are some good guys from that board down here and in Denver/Littleton always willing to help.  Me, I'm learning as I go.  She's been waiting for a top gasket replacment for over a year now..the benefit of having 2 bikes I guess..

Mike tuned my '81 GS1000G and got it running very well, and installed the Electrosport stator and regulator/rectifier kit.

Cycle shops here won't touch my 88 BMW either to even mount the tires!

IMO it's nuts to ride a bike in to have tires changed, it's much cheaper to carry the wheels in - and anyone will change 'em then.
Ride the bike in and you're paying their $85/hr shop rate (or ~$100/hr if it's Erico)

Two cheapest places I've found:

Faster! Motorsports ($15 /wheel carry-in + disposal fee $2-$3 per tire)
I order tires online and have been having Faster! do them for years.

Performance Cycle just started doing tire changes again after a 9 yr absence.
$20 per tire (plus disposal fee) carry-in. Probably have to buy the tire there, not completely sure.
I just put new D606's on my TE610 and bought them there and had them mounted. Grand Prix (1/2 price Dunlop place) might be a little cheaper overall if you're running DUnlops.

Thought I better follow up...I dropped it off at Supertune and it got it back 2 weeks later. Had the carbs cleaned and adjusted and a new sprocket and chain installed. I'm getting a new bike next Spring so I didn't want to pour a whole lot into this one.

Anyhow the work was top notch, it idles as good as it's ever going to and I was more than pleased with the service and the cost. I recommend these guys highly. I hit the Suzuki dealer in Boulder for parts a while back and was both horrified at the prices and unimpressed with the customer service. These guys are the way to go.

Anybody have any experience with Front Range Cycle in Ft.Collins for repairs? Cost? Customer service? Would you use them again?

I liked Supertune but I need to find a mechanic closer to Longmont for some brake work.Any suggestions would be appreciated. Tried Barry Messenger but the number listed in this thread is out of service. Any suggestions in the Longmont, Loveland,Ft. Collins area would be appreciated. Thanks!
