186 rwhp...
ZX10 apologists are saying a remap takes the ZX from 165 to 180 as this is an emissions thing.
But the Beemer does this legally. Holy moley.

The k13S was overweight at inception. Not underpowered though.

What I find interesting is how different the various 1000's deliver their power. The CBR is 20 RWHP stronger than the new 2011 ZX-10 at 9000 rpm, the previous 3rd gen ZX-10 is 15 RWHP stronger, and the, BMW is 10 HP stronger. A street rider will see 9000 rpm a lot more often than 13,000 rpm. The latest issue of BIKE compared a broken in BMW (192 RWHP), new 2011 ZX-10 (175 RWHP -non restricted Euro version), previous 3rd gen ZX-10 (169 RWHP), and the CBR at a limp wristed 165 RWHP. But the new Kaw has the best electronics package and chassis while the CBR is old school- no engine modes, traction control, anti wheelie control, etc.

This must be what it's like for crack addicts and I lead a pretty tame existence. I remember the first time I rode a XL1200. Coming from a tired 750 (or maybe it was the PC800) it felt like it was going to rip my arms off. Then came the first yehaw moment on the first ZRX at a something like 80 at the rear wheel of which I'm using maybe 50 or 60. Guess it pays to be a cheap date. Other than bragging rights and insurance payments I have no idea what I'd do with 185.

Coming to the National meet? If you do, and I manage to make it, I'll let you ride my 220 RWHP bike. Mainline it, baby. Mainline it.

The rain mode on the BMW restricts the engine output to "only" 149hp.

By the time I shed enough younguns from the nest to consider a meet we'll be talking kW rated fusion reactor fuel cells.

That is me on my Ducati Monster 696 at NJMP followed by a rider on a BMW S1000RR. He never passed me.
It is the rider, not the ride.

I got to ride a ZX-10R from the Kawasaki demo truck this weekend (along with a Z1000, Ninja 1000 [twice], and a C-14 with a passenger).
My first impression was how comfy it was compared to the BMW. This was a product of three things - the seat was much wider further forward, the bars angles were considerably flatter, though they weren't actually much higher, and the suspension was a *lot* more plush.
The bike was noticeably down on power compared to my BMW, even though we only got one solid 10-100mph sprint; although the delivery felt more immediate and direct. (NB - this turns out to be the BMW mode choice. I normally ride around in "Sport", the softest dry road mode. I switched up to "Slick" mode today to compare and it was as, um, "responsive" as the Kawasaki.)
It felt a lot bigger, particularly a lot *longer*. I think this was a perception caused by the styling of the windscreen, which reaches out to the nose of the bike.
Can't wait until the other Japanese manufacturers respond - in 2013 we should have a heck of a liter bike shootout.

BTW, the C14 *sucks*!!!
WTF did they do to the ZX-14? Slow, noisy, vibey, did I mention slow, wind noise in every windshield position, damn it was slow, NO acceleration in a "OD" (sixth gear) rollon, clunky. Ick. I admit that I had a passenger aboard, and the suspension did handle the load fairly well. But damn that was an unimpressive experience.

motorcycle-usa.com has a new shoot out.
BMW #1
Honda #2
The all conquering new ZX10 #3....
To be fair a Guzzi was not in the mix, otherwise the results could have been very different.
