I think buyers are holding off on the Tiger 1050 until they have a look at the Tiger 800. This package should stimulate 1050 sales. I'm betting a wire wheel Tiger 1050 will come later this year to hold up sales until the shaft drive Tiger arrives in 2012.

This is a very sweet deal, I'll have another look at the 1050.

My 09 came with the side bags then I bought a gloss black Givi topcase later to match. Also added the Triumph centerstand and heated grips into the purchase price. Sure would have liked to had this deal.

I think you're right -- man y folks are fence sitting, waiting to test one of the 800s  . . . .a report I read on another site from a 1050 owner who did ride an 800 said it was a nice bike, indeed, but he simply couldn't trade away to the 1050 engine . . . . . makes sense, specially if you ride most of the time on pavement . . . .

If you get a Tiger 800 outfitted with these same accessories, I estimate it will be only about $250 less money than this well-equipped Tiger deal.  The price of a Tiger 800XC with these same accessories will likely be quite a few hundred over the price of the 1050.  Incentive indeed!

I've read the same thing over on Tiger1050.net. Many have taken test rides and found the 800 mill to be much less flexible, obviously less powerful and it did not have the same zing and infectious feel. It seems most current Tiger owners are holding fast to see what else comes down the line. There have been some that have swapped as they had to have the latest and greatest or liked the new 800 look so much to make the swap (usually the XC version).

Personally, I'm one of those holding out to see what the future holds. The 1050 engine is superb.

From what I've read the handling of the 800 is way better then the 1050, that's gotta count for domething.  For me there's much more
then HP(zing?) that goes into the decision to buy.  My little Scrambler put a bigger smile on my face then the Daytona675 ever did........ except manybe on the track after turning a personal best.  :- )

As for the opinion of current 1050 owners, I pay them little attention for they are biased, no?

I've got no dog in this hunt....... yet.   On 4/1-2, when the demo truck is in the area, I'll give them both a try along with the new speed Triple.

Fair enough. If you did not have the Tiger 1050 which would you buy.... 1050, 800, 800XC? What factors influenced the decision??

I'm without a Tiger and I'm leaning toward the 800. Handling and confort an key points of consideration for me and the 800 will have more power then I can fully exploit. On 4/1 I'll ride both and ...... we'll see!

If I had the choice of a Tiger 1050 or a Tiger 800 for the same (or very similar) price, it would have to come down to the test ride.  I don't think it's a foregone conclusion that the 800 Tiger out-handles the 1050 other than in regards to basic dimensions (being lighter weight, thinner, and likely a bit less top-heavy).  The Tiger 1050 is a good handling bike given it's size and class, and has fully adjustable suspension where the Tiger 800 does not.  

I had a 07 Tiger 1050 for 3-years, and have had my Street Triple R for 1-year.  While I really love the performance of the little naked bike, I am beginning to miss the comfort and general "conquer-anything" type attitude of the Tiger.  Someday I may have to acquire another big cat.  It's too bad they don't offer the 1050's in any exciting colors now.

If I was starting from scratch, I, too, would test the 1050 and the 800 XC -- the romantic side of my brain would say "XC," for I really like the idea of doing the TAT, retiring to Moab, and running the passes in Colorado for months on end . . .

The realistic part of me (and the portion that just really digs going from 80 to 100 instantly) would lobby for the 1050 . . . . . .

It's a tough call, really . . . . .

There are spy pics on the 1200 Tiger with a shaft-drive, etc.  But I believe the wire-wheeled 1050 is just conjecture, unless Roadscum has further info.

WW Tiger 1050 is speculation on my part, no evidence to back it up. BUT..... why no put WW on the 1050 Tiger?? C'mon Triumph bring it on and confuse me even more.

I can buy that, since Triumph now has an ex-HD exec in their midst.  And we all know HD made Buell use the pods so they'd have an excuse to shut him down.

By that logic, this is yet another HD plot, they're trying to shut down Triumph!  For the love of God, somebody let Bloor know the calls are coming from inside the house!

Ditto. I rode them both back to back...real world 90% road riding the 1050 is a clear value and better preforming. I have owned 3 generations of Triumph Sprints and the 1050 just gets it. The 800 is no slouch but no way is it a 1050.

I left the Sprint behind due to the Sprint GT is a purely a complaint driven remedy. The ST is a lighter, faster bike.
Triumph listened and cares what riders complaints are and are filling a void but imho..not an engineered 4th gen improvement.
The Tiger 1050 has better suspension and braking and ergo's over all of them.
