Seats are similiar I believe to the fjr, which I have used the an air hawk (medium?) many times for long trips.  Great improvement.

Alaska sheep skin, or better yet, "spencerize" it.

The best?  Russell Day Long Saddle.  Not cheap, but hands down the best.  http://www.day-long.com/

If its just for long distances, try the wooden beads, really!  I bought a Sargent for my BMW, that wasn't a lot better than the stock seat.  Then I added the wooden beads for trips and loved it.  It really works, keeps your butt dry and cool.

From where and how much? I just put the Sargent on the Bandit and want to add just a bit more.

Bead Rider...... don't leave home without it! In hot weather it provides good ventilation to keep you cooler and will eleminate  the risk of "monkey butt".   In wet weather it keeps you up and above the puddle that forms in the seat. I sometimes cover my bead rider with a sheep skin for the ultimate in comfort.

I did the 3/2 trick on my ST seat and after 4 years am still using the stocker with no add ons, and it works great, for me at least. The 3/2 trick is this. The ST1300 seat is adjustable for 3 ride heights. Put the front of the seat on the highest setting and then push the back of seat forward as hard as you can until the back seat posts slip into their center position, one below the highest position. This flattens out the angle of seat and it becomes all day comfortable, I can attest to that! Best part is it's free!

I've used an airhawke on my ST1300 and have done some 900 mile days without too much discomfort. My butt was ok the next morning.
