Importing Streets and Trips Routes into Mapsource.

I have been messing around with Microsoft Streets and Trips 2011 and found that I was having trouble importing my routes into Garmins Mapsource. After a bit of research and screwing around with it, I have a work around that works well for me. For anybody else having this issue, try these steps:
Instructions for importing Microsoft Streets and Trips 2011 Routes into Garmin Mapsource.
Step 1: Create your route in Microsoft Streets and Trips 2011
Step 2: Export route as .GPX file
Step 3: Open the exported .gpx file in Notepad
Step 4: remove all time tags within the time. To do this delete everything within the
tags all the way and including
this will have to be done for each
waypoint inside the file. Don't forget to include the tags themselves (this
and this
)
Step 5:Save the file as a .gpx file. To do this, click save as, then name the file using
.gpx in the filename and put quotations around the name. Example: "route.gpx" (make
sure to use the quotations.)
Step 6: Open Mapsource and click open file. Choose your new .gpx file from the list, and
open it. You're now home free!

Why do you need to import it to Mapsource though? I just copy the .gpx file to my Garmin folder on the GPS device? Or do you do further editing in Mapsource?

I use both programs for routing bigger rides/rallys and I have found it easiest to just upload routes to my 2820 using Mapsource...

A better way maybe using
gpsbabel
. Should only take two steps: save file in S&T, open GPSBabel (select file to convert from and file to convert to), convert file. You might want to add a another step to set preferences so you don't get the extra info.

Agreed. With a test file you should know in a few tries what you need to pick to get a quick and clean conversion.
The proposed instructions above seem like too much work.
I use S&T to plan my trip then use Mapsource to make the GPS file and make sure the planned route converts over cleanly (Garmin might not route as Microsoft would). The whole process seems redundant, but I'm memorizing my ride plan by doing so in case I wind up improvising during the trip it's already in my head.

I recommend GPSgabel as well. Easy peasy.
I'll try your way as well.
