PLEASE SEE MY POST ON PAGE 2 FOR NEWEST DEVELOPMENTS!

THE ARRANGEMENTS HAVE CHANGED!

This is a new thread to tally who is planning on attending the dinner at the ST.N National in Custer, SD.

All I need to know at this point is do you plan on attending the dine-in dinner at the Bavarian Inn Restaurant.

While I've put down a $200 deposit (which will be applied towards the bill), at this time I am under the impression each diner will be ordering off the menu, which means if you want drinks, dessert, etc. it's on your tab and we don't have to worry about extra fees for not consuming enough food and drink.

****************************************************

AS OF TODAY:  6/6/2011 (10:38)

The following have expressed a commitment to attending the dinner: (21 so far)

zer0netgain
bubba zanetti
Dr. Zorko
maddjack
Mr. Sunshine
Andrew
black hills
Croak
shil
BigBlock + spouse
Oxblood
Rammer
greench440
Reddog
Paintman + spouse
iowabirdbrain + friend
birdrunner + friend

So, post up here as soon as you're certain you intend to attend.  The restaurant still wants a count of how many people to plan for.

PLEASE VISIT THIS THREAD (http://www.sport-touring.net/forums/index.php/topic,63018.0.html) AND VOTE ON YOUR TOP TWO ENTREE CHOICES.  If we have 16 or more people, they want us to select 2 entrees that guests want to choose from as they need to ensure enough is on hand.

I'm still trying to figure out price.  Come on people, I know some of you like to wait until the last minute, but it's almost May, and I need a total number to best figure the price per person.

I regret to say that I am officially out for this year's National.  Sad  I just accepted a new job which starts the first week of June.  My family and I will be taking time in mid June to move to Region 5.  I will be leaving the Mountain State for the Tarheel State.

Folks, we are just 4 weeks out before I must have a final count and the money in.

4 weeks might sound like a lot of time to some of you, but my weeks seem to fly past, and I don't want to dogpile this at the last minute.

I can't finalize ANYTHING until I have a solid estimate of how many plan to attend.

Please consider if you intend to attend and post up.

IMPORTANT NOTE!

Due to the low number of commitments at this point, I'm considering doing the following change....

Rather than try to have a catered affair, switch it so that they expect a large dine-in group at the restaurant.

The chief benefit here is that if we have a low turnout, we don't get saddled with extra fees that drive up the cost of per person attendance.

Currently, a catered dinner is $15.99 each.  No dessert.  No booze.  If we don't have more than $1,000 in food, a $150 room rental fee is imposed, and at the current count, that's an extra $11 per person.  A drink bar (pay as you go) must sell $300 in drinks or there's an extra $50 fee for that.  If I was expecting about 65+ people, these fees would be nothing to worry about.  If the turnout remains low, they'd really kill the experience.  Having dined about, I know what I expect for $18 as compared to $30, so these fees would likely ruin the experience for a small group.

If I convert over to a dine-in arrangement, we would likely order off the menu.  Drinks would come from the bar as you like on your own tab and dessert would be available if you want it.  As I don't know the custom for tipping for catered affairs, I figure this is a better arrangement for their wait staff where tips are concerned.

What I want to know is how do you all feel about changing the arrangement?  If you all are okay with it, I'll let them know to switch it over.  The $200 deposit would go toward the bill, and I'll find out the deal on how the bill will be handled, but I presume that all they will need is an expected total to be in attendance and you won't need to worry about paying until that night.

I agree. No point in running up the prices when we can order off the menu. Same goes for the liquor, I don't drink so I won't be much help in running up a $300 bar tab.

Smart move, I won't know ( and will have to scramble if I can go ) till about 8 to 10 days before. No need for anything more than a formal, we are group dining on this night and time to have fun. The catering is ok if its a large group, but its doubtful it will be.

Okay, changes are in place.  Please visit the below thread and consider what two entree options off the menu you would like to choose from.  This will only apply if we have 16 or more people in attendance, but as we are at 14 now, the odds are we will have to nail this down as well.

http://www.sport-touring.net/forums/index.php/topic,63018.0.html

My $200 deposit is being switched over towards our total bill.  Not sure how to best handle it.  I suppose if you know you WILL spend at least $20 on food and drink, 10 people could just give me a $20 at the dinner and we'll take $20 off your individual bill (don't forget to tip on the total though  Wink ).

Ending up taking the 10th through the 20th off, which gives me a good chunk of time on either side of the National itself.

But, I still have to decide which bike I'm riding.  The comfortable, capacious, and capable Sprint, or the ultra-capable, much less capacious and much shorter-legged Tuono.

I'm leaning towards the Tuono at the moment since it's the newest toy, and a relatively short ~1k mile trip each way.  Oddly, I'm feeling guilty about leaving the touring bike in the stable (as if a machine would care).  Smile

I'd also have to stay closer to civilization on the Tuono due to the shorter tank range (roughly half that of the Sprint).  Loading it down with camping gear is also a non-starter, which potentially takes out a good chunk of my road trip fun since I genuinely enjoy camping.

Decisions, decisions, but I'm damned grateful to be in a position where I can make such choices. Smile

Okay, it is now 5/31/11.  As of TODAY we have 14 people.  No new additions or subtractions to the list on post 1 of this thread.

If you are not coming and are listed or are not listed and will be attending the dinner LET ME KNOW ASAP.  I need to have a body count for the restaurant and our top two entree picks.  I plan to notify the restaurant next Monday (6/6/11) since I don't expect any last-second changes, but I could let them know up until my departure (Thursday night).

As of now, the poll tally for dinner options are tied at 8oz Sirloin, Wiener Schnitzel and Beef Stroganoff.  If I must submit 2, I'd use the Sirloin and Wiener Schnitzel since Stroganoff is also a beef entree.  This will only kick in if we have 16 or more people...not that you couldn't order an extra entree and split it with others if you see something you really want to try.

Up to 19 now.  Cool

If there are changes, post up.  I'll e-mail in a current total Monday, but I'll let them know of any changes so they can arrange seating as the date approaches.

Okay, I've e-mailed in the total of 19.  If there are any changes, I'll e-mail them an update.

TUESDAY, JUNE 14 at 6:00 PM.  The main entrees of choice are the 8oz Sirloin and the Wiener Schnitzel.

I've already put $200 down which will be transferred to the bill, I'll ask then how to handle the tab.  If you spend more than $20 on dinner, I suppose I could have $20 applied to your bill (up to 10 people) and you just give me a $20, or do $10 for everyone and everyone give me a $10.  In either case, don't forget to tip your server  Wink
