Just watched Erik Buell and the folks from Erik Buell Racing on the Craftsman Garage Show. About the coolest thing he mentioned was that they had a complete range of bikes in the works including the RX-11, the SX-11, and the AX-11.

AX has GOT to mean "adventure sport"! All you guys that wanted an 1125 powered Uly, sounds like you may get your wish in a couple of years!

A close friend of Erik's, a guy named Court Canfield, replied with a few hints that this maybe closer than 5 years away............. Just sayin.

It wouldn't be that expensive - they can recycle a lot of the engineering from the ULY and 1125.

Another closet Buell lover that never got a chance to buy one so he feels the need to denigrade the brand and put down posts by other owners to make himself feel better that he got a Guzzi.  

Some people just can't help but be negative.  Best to stay clear of them.  Those are usually folks that never get anywhere in life.

Glad to see everything is ramping up for EB. I slabbed it just to Camarillo and back today and came home with a stiffy. The outside temperature was just perfect for the bike. It wanted to go into hyperdrive every minute of the ride, but I wouldn't let it.

There have been a few interviews where Erik has mentioned that more affordable models are currently in development.

I will be just as interested to see the EBR dealer network.

I've owned two Buells, an M2 and a Uly, so there. What have I said here to make you feel that I've 'denegrated the brand' ?
Anyone can own a Guzzi, it's just another moto, like a Buell,  with a poor delaer network and piss poor customer support.
I've done OK , mensa material. Got a great daughtet, retired 7 years ago, ride 20-25K miles a year, shipped a bike to Europe and will spend the summer riding Tuscany, Provence,  Corsica, and the Alps from France to the Czech Repiblic. I promise to keep in touch!

Is everyone assuming an adventure-bike based on the "AX" designation, or did he say something specific?  With my very limited test riding of the 1125CR, the engine experience did not lend me to think "Adv-bike".  The Thunderstorm engine seemed a better match for that, imho.

The 1125 motor could work in an adventure bike.  Different gearing and heavier flywheel & pistons would make it smoother in the low RPMs.

You generate negativity in all your posts.  Everything you have been spouting off so far is to denigrade the brand you know nothing about.  I don't believe for one minute you owned a Buell.  

Why are U so focused on price and you keep bitching about it?  If you are Mensa material then you should be smart enough to understand some business sense in manufacturing costs of low volume, hand built motorcycles.  Yet, you seem clueless to it and keep whining.  Are you one of those who think they are smarter than everyone else but is actually partially Autistic & schizophrenic?  If you are not interested in Buells, why even bother coming here?  To piss people off?  To pump yourself up and make yourself feel better?  Who really cares about your family and your other qualities?  We are suppose to be impressed?  On the contrary.  You sound like someone who needs to be constantly reminded that you don't know jack shit about certain things.

It's not very difficult to turn an engine to produce a flatter torque curve and tune it with smooth fueling at low RPM.  Triumph was able to that with their 675 Triple.  

Having said that, I agree with you.  The Thunderstorm was perfect for that role, lighter, and much simpler.

I always thought having the Thunderstorm and the Helicon around were complimentary to each other.

Guys that I know that were at the Craftsman show did ask about that.  Erik's answer was that the 1190 is WAY to much motor for that type of bike and would have to be detuned way too much for his taste.  So, it sounds like the 1125 would be better suited.

The music was a bit off putting but if you listen to the interview it kind of fades away into the background.

Not too much information that isn't already out there.  However, it's easy to see the enthusiasm from the EBR crew and EB himself.  It's interesting how EB mentioned several direction they can go and tackle and one of them that he said was electric bikes.  Interesting.

However, I get a strong impression that they need another six months to meet homologation rules and get the bike ready for racing.  

The interviewer did suck and it was obvious he didn't know too much about technical details.  Of course, that's not what they hired him for!

The Homologation Rules really aren't that strict.  Here are the highlights:

--The motorcycle must meet all D.O.T., E.P.A., and other U.S.  Federal requirements for street usage.
--The manufacturer must have produced a quantity of at least 18 units before applying for homologation.
--Motorcycles submitted for American SuperBike homologation approval may not exceed a retail price of
$40,000 U.S.

I've heard talk that at $40k they will actually be selling the 1190RS at a loss.  If that's true, I guess this is the reason.

G1 AMA Pro Homologation Procedure for American SuperBike,
Daytona SportBike and SuperSport Motorcycles
a. Homologation is the official assessment made by AMA Pro
Racing for a particular motorcycle to determine its eligibility for
competition. Eligibility will be based on available quantities, retail
pricing and technical suitability for a particular class. Inclusion
or exclusion is at the sole discretion of AMA Pro Racing. An
approved model can be disallowed at any time for violations of
quantities or pricing.
G2 Requirements for an AMA Pro Homologation
a. Any manufacturer of mass production, U.S. street legal
motorcycles may apply for an AMA Pro Homologation.
Technical suitability and manufacturer preference will determine
class specific placement for each model based on the following
eligibility:
G3 Eligibility Requirements:
a. The motorcycles must be of current production.
b. The motorcycles are to be sold for everyday use.
c. At the time of the AMA Pro inspection for homologation
the motorcycle must be fully equipped with all road going
equipment. This includes, but is not limited to, lights, blinkers,
kick stands, etc.
d. The motorcycle must meet all D.O.T., E.P.A., and other U.S.
Federal requirements for street usage.
e. The motorcycle must have a manufacturer’s certificate of origin.
f. A third party may homologate the motorcycle but they must
comply with all requirements.
G4 Minimum Production Quantities
a. The minimum production quantities consist of units with
identical equipment and technical specifications intended for
sale to retail customers.
b. Evidence of production quantities and time frames must be
submitted to AMA Pro Racing upon request. Availability and
sale to the public may be demonstrated by waybills, bills of
lading and/or any other bonafide import, export or customs
documents.
c. Quantity and pricing requirements are as follows:
i. The manufacturer must have produced a quantity of at
least 18 units before applying for homologation.
ii. The minimum quantity of 36 units must be produced by
June 1st of the current competition season.
iii. The minimum quantity of 72 units must be produced 15
days previous to the last race of the current competition
season.
The minimum quantity of 100 units must be produced by
the end of the calendar year.
v. Motorcycles submitted for American SuperBike
homologation approval may not exceed a retail price of
$40,000 U.S.
vi. Motorcycles submitted for Daytona SportBike and
SuperSport homologation approval may not exceed a retail
price of $20,000 U.S.

I watched the video (or most of it anyway)last night and Rogue is right...Erik's enthusiasm is contagious.  He just seems so excited about what's coming down the pipeline and the fact that he can now do whatever he wants without Harley getting in the way.  

I was disappointed to hear that they will not be ready to race the 1190 at the next AMA SBK race.  I'm anxious to see that bike compete.
