I had been harboring hopes that Polaris might release a Victory sport tourer much like the new Motus...only less costly  Bigsmile

As many times as the Indian motorcycle name has been forcibly relocated, I'm starting to think there might be a deeper connection.

The  local Indian dealer is also a Polaris dealer. Shouldn't be too much of a shake up for them.  Thumbsup

I am confused by this move Headscratch

With there Victory line being much more profitable than anything Indian has done (my opinion), why would they spend money on IMO a lesser technology?

I can not even see Polaris doing this to buy Indian's customer base.

I foresee Victory powered bikes with swooping fenders and the Indian name.

Victory = modern/"custom" cruisers?

Indian = classic cruisers?

^ agree.  Victory will sell the modern-looking stuff and Indian will attract the retro crowd.  Same power basic plant for both probably, with only styling differences.

I have to agree.  Anyone seen the price of an Indian recently?  Not even close to realistic.

I have ridden a few Victories, even the weird Vision. They had some good snort down low, and good FI. I also think they are after the retro crowd, and can argue that they have the "deep heritage" or "lineage" that can compete with the HD crowd. Indian is a very old brand, so if they can tap into that, they may do well with it.

This is great - can't wait to see what's going to come out under new ownership.  I bet they pull a lot of customers who just want a viable alternative to the Motor Company.

MCN claims to have been leaked some photos; they only showed one so far online.

http://www.motorcyclenews.com/MCN/News/newsresults/New-bikes/2011/July/jul1511-shock-new-indians-leak-to-mcn-reader/

Pictures of five new Indians and a production version of the radical Victory Core concept have leaked to MCN after a reader was unwittingly targeted by an online research firm.

The six bikes - featuring dramatically different styles and powertrains from air-cooled vintage to girder-forked board-track - are sure to strike fear into the heart of Harley-Davidson, which it's now clear faces its most serious threat in generations.

Now owned by massively wealthly Polaris Industries, owners of Victory motorcycles, this is the first tangible sign of the extent of the firm's ambitions for America's oldest bike brand.

Currently engaged in the boutique production of high-end legacy cruisers exclusively for the US market, Indian is being moved in-house to Minnesota and groomed to take on Harley worldwide, backed by Polaris' £1.2bn annual revenues.

The hard core Harley folks I know do not recognize the Victory line to be a qualifying alternative to the HD.

Indian, however is quite the opposite. It could turn very profitable in that regard.

Polaris has their first Indian out for testing.  Production set to begin in October (already).
