Bump.

See?  I actually checked to see if there was a thread about this before posting a new one.  The search function really does work.  Imagine that.

This thread needs more love.  I'd be really curious to see this RC light.  I think the ultra light would probably just be a really expensive rain suit but the light has my attention.  Am I willing to give up the third third of the abrasion resistance?  Tough call.  I wonder how much cooler it really would be.  Inquiring minds want to know.  Any of you people with money have one yet?

Research...  Opine...

It seems that the light weight is due more to the lighter fabric than increased airflow. I wish that my Stich had some ventilation in the chest area like my First Gear did. Though I did notice on recent hot weather ride that with the sleeves unzipped all the way a nice draft runs up the arms and out the pits when moving.

I very much like that it is $220 less.

It looks like pads are extra and it doe snot take the TF% pads?

When you price out the original 1 piece RC with pads it is over $1000.

I want - but just cannot justify it when my 7 year old kit still works (thought it is getting tighter every year).

Nope.  Reg RC includes pads.  I think I paid just over 800 with alterations (before price hike).   Ouch...just checked price.  Hike was a good one.   Crazy  Glad I bought when I did.

Looks like the 'ultra light' is the lightweight sans ballistic panels. Still awfully pricey.

Sorry it is $980 delivered with a simple back pad and shipping.  Crazy

The hip pads are extra as are the upgraded back pad, map pickets.

With everything just like I want it (assuming I need no extra alterations it is : $1055

That is a shit ton of money anyway you try to splain it away.

How much did it used to cost for an equivalent setup?

My Kiliminjaro jacket was free from Pop and the pants were $200 ish.

It probably cost $550 altogether several years back.

Absolutely no clue.  Probably a pithy reference to Palin, or alien pinball (which actually happened), or some other such OMG type thought that might be running through DNA's head as he slid down the slab.   Wink

Or maybe I forgot to mention Nikwax.  Bigok

Because I buy close-outs, my full leather colder-weather gear and hot weather mixed-mesh gear cost me under $500 total. Shrug

Kim's stich had never been worn on a motorcycle.  It was purchased, tried on, put in a closet for 2 years then sold to us for under 500 bucks with pads.  Bargains are out there.

I bought my first one for 400 and sold it years later for 375.  I bought a friends new one (same deal as above) for 250 and sold it for 575.  Took proceeds and purchased my new one...which was recalled for color and got my other new one.  Smile

They're made in the US, and hopefully that means that the workers there are receiving reasonable pay/benefits for their work - that costs more than sourcing the cheapest labor in the world for production. I try to support our standard of living when I can. That said, I bought my 'as new' stich off of CL for $500.  Smile

At the bottom of the product description, it says "Imported".  Not so sure about it being US made.

You're right. I emailed 'em to make sure and they say that the Ultralight is made in the US, but the Light is made in Vietnam. I wonder how much the difference in production cost is?

as is their leather line.  Vanson doesn't make off-the-rack leathers in the U.S. anymore, either.

I'm not surprised the armor is optional; they're not the first to lower the pricepoint by making previously-standard components add-ons.  BMW has been doing it with rain liners for a few years now.
