Her first motorcycle! She has been a passenger for almost 20 years with me. Now she has her own. All the planets came into alignment and we found her a 2003 Ninja 250 with 6700 miles. This brings a whole new world into play for me with teaching the basics. She gets her permit next week. Next step is the MSF course.

Congrats & condolences! It is great that she wants to ride her own bike, but it can be a bit unnerving when you ride together and you perceive a "hazard." In my experience the concern/worrying lessens some after you are comfortable that she is a competent and capable rider.

Yea... it will definitely be hard to turn her loose on her own. The skills are coming to her pretty quickly ...but I still see the concern factor coming into play.

+1 Although I still worry way too much when my wife is riding with me, can't seem to let it go. Plus what Blue said... I love hopping on my wifes, now replaced, Ninja 500! Fun little bike.

Good luck to Mrs. Gunslinger.
Mrs. Rincewind got her permit and a custom bike (gasp!) a few weeks ago and is really getting into it. We use bluetooth coms for yelling at each other bike-2-bike. She texts me pics of her out riding to appointments and it makes me smile. MSF in one week!

My wife's been riding now for 3 or 4 years... I worried a lot at first... however the first time I saw her execute a perfect avoidance maneuver (womaneuver?) it lessened.. Over the years she's dodged a puking vulture in the road among other things, I don't worry nearly as much anymore..
However I do wish she liked leading..... I spend a lot of time checking on her ;-)

Consider yourself very lucky that you have a spouse that likes motorcycles, has her own and rides with you.

I understand the concern gents have over their wife's safety while riding . . . . . consider this, though
- women generally do not suffer from testosterone overdoses like guys can -- they seem to have far less trouble riding their own ride than many guys do
- according to my wife (rider for longer than she would care for me to post on a public forum), women make better native, untrained motorcyclists than men do -- this is chalked up to women (generally) going through life primarily with their hips, ,while men muscle their way through by upper body activities -- this flies in the face of many "how to ride" courses, I know, but the fact that my wife has a much better record of NOt falling off than I do lends a certain credibility to her statements . . .
Enjoy the fact that you can share this fun together . . . . . it's wonderful!

I do indeed... first wife claimed to like riding with me (on the back) but bitched about it a lot... bought a luxo-tourer and it still wasn't good enough for her... so I traded that one in ;-)....the wife of course..sold the cavalcade too ;-)

It's lime green. I could have a blast with it if I wasn't 6' and 250. I look like a gorilla monting a radioactive squirrel. She absolutely loves it! She already had a lime green ninja coat too.

Congratulations. But be warned. There is a downside my wife is starting to look for her sixth bike. We've had up to 4 at one time but 2 were hers. LOL but I wouldn't trade following my wife through a nice set of curves on bikes for anything.
