Proposal: Eastern Group Meet

Let's put it this way.............anyone that wants too that is

One of my favorite haunts is Sticky Fingers Ribs.  The one closes to me is Greenville, SC.  I say those who want to do a ride down to meet for a lunch of 11:30ish or so and swap lies and do a looksie at everyone's bikes.

Just need to set a date; preferably a sunny day on a Saturday or Sunday for me.  I stay busy with my job and family that time is sometimes as precious a commodity as gold is.  

But maybe this coming month or even in June.  Those who may be interested voice your opinion on this thread.  Good eats and across the road there is a Starbucks for some sipping coffee as well.

Then everyone take off back home for a nice ride.  All in all we could look at maybe meeting up for about 2-3 hours or so and then take our iron horses back home for coraling!

Just let me know what you guys think.  I say we set a date but if bad weather strikes we have a contigent date.  If bad weather strikes that date then sit at home and drink cold beer!

If you want to meet in Greenville, Sticky Fingers is fine with me.  I live 30 miles from Greenville & work in Greenville so that's a no brainer.  I should be able to make it any weekend.  

I do think we should pick a Saturday.  That way peeps out of town can stay the night & ride back home on Sunday.

Okay folks............let's pick a date and see who can make it.  I have the following I am available, check your dates and see if we can get one that matches up for most.

They are May 14th; June 18th or 25th.  I left out July in case alot of folks are vacationing.  I am available July 2nd.  I have the ARC on July 3rd so not available.

If we throw in Sundays as a possible date I have: May 15th or 19th.  In June the 19th or 26th.

Well I said I could go just about anytime but I'll be on vacation June 25th.  

I have something to do May 14th but its not an all day thing.  If you do it in the evening, I could make it.  As far as a June 18th would be the best Saturday for me if I'm picking from the days you've mentioned.

I don't have a problem doing it on a Sunday.  Its easy for me on Sunday b/c I'm only 30 miles away.  Maybe those who are having a longer distance to ride should get more of a say than I do about meeting on Sunday.

Day for me.......actually a 3/4 to full day thing.  I am thinking we meet around 9:00-9:30 am for the guys in the Asheville area that want to ride down together.  We hit the road after a leizurely cup of Joe then head down.  Get a decent spot for the bikes and meet and greet the others.  Then eat and go across the road for another cup of Joe and lies!  Then part ways.

It will depend on how I feel after chemo, I go back in for my last treatment tuesday (31st) and it takes a week or 2 to get over it and get my blood levels back up. I'd really like to meet some of the personalitys and put faces to names.

If you are coming in from the I-26 east route into Buncombe County just meet me near my home.  Get off on exit 19 in Weaverville which is in Buncombe County and then go left at the light.  Travel across the bridge and then the next light will be a strip mall type of retail on the left just behind the Shell Station.  Meet me in the parking lot there lets say 8:30 to 8:45 a.m.

Just let me know.

Still thinking a 8:45 a.m. stop @ Dunkin Donuts on Hendersonville Rd. just up from Long Shoals Rd. if you guys are familiar with that area.  Hopefully the weather will co-operate for sure.  Just noticed yesterday a small gouge in the rear tire......looks like maybe a slight puncture but no air is coming out.  Hopefully it will be fine because there are quite a few miles left on the rear tire!

I always go there via a small trip down 26 to Hwy 25 into the big town of Greenville.  Suggestions are highly encouraged!

Then how about let's make a really nice loop on the way back up - head up 178/281 over to 215 then 209 to 208/212/Madison Co area and back down from Marshall.

And FF and TT are meeting in Weavervegas at 8:45 and then down to Dunkins at 9:15, correct?

PS  I've/we've done a good many of these roads in the past 3 months or so, but several of them would be fun 'backwards' in this direction...

I saw Bent Aero's last week in Sparta, it is a beautiful bike.  There were several there and I've seen quite a few over the years that have been farkled both for looks and for performance.  IMO, one of the all time great bikes.

Matt I believe has some backroads for the ride down in mind.  Me, I am road illiterate without my GPS!  I just get lost when riding and rely on the satellites in the heavens to guide me back!

It always looks bad in the summer.  Afternoon tunnerboomers are always the case but you can go around them.  BTW, I was a test engineer for Murphy back in the '60s.

I hope this is the case as I won't be able to make it this time. I made an earlier commitment to ride in another part of NC (Charlotte to Boone to Asheville (via BRP) to Highlands to a couch in Clemson). So at least I'll be riding anyway! Have fun guys! And if you get out-braked and passed by a guy on an RC51 with Yoshis and a blue SV1000 don't take it personally, ok?

I'll be down at the DD to meet TT, FF, MK, and ST...  

It's been a long couple of days...  The Givi rack mounting bracket broke yesterday, so it got welded up at MK's house last night.  Then I am at work and notice out my door that there is a nail sticking out of my relatively new back tire.  The local shops that I might be able to talk into patching it are all out for the weekend either on vacay or at the races (none of the large shops do patches/plugs), but I found a shop to patch it from the inside (they do mostly cars but are bike enthusiasts and do a lot of bike tires also). I have a plug kit, but consider that an emergency dealio and would rather patch from the inside, and I wasn't about to go pulling the tire off myself.  Strick's does have the inside patch kit though FYI.  

So, I'm going to put the Givi back on right now and should be able to roll in the morning.

And heck, for anybody that can't make it this weekend, there's always next weekend.  My goal is to have a lot more fun riding this summer.

It was good seeing everybody and I hope everybody made it home OK.  It's too bad we didn't get to hit the really good roads, but such is the weather...  The electricity was just restored here a little while ago because of a limb taking out a main line down the street.
