The bags do indeed require a key to open but I find them very easy to operate both to open the lid and to remove them from the bike. Fortunately, for my purposes requiring the key is a non-issue.

I think the issue is that you can't choose to close the bags and leave them unlocked. The is no button to press to open them, you have to use the key to operate the latch mechanism. I don't know if that's true on all bikes but it can be a little annoying when the bike is already running and you realize that your groceries are still sitting on the curb.

Ah, I see.  Thanks for the clarification.

So, to those of you that have a GT how do you find the ergo's? and if you don't mind what are your dimensions(not that EEK!)

I'm considering one as my next bike, I currently ride an 09 FZ6 and find it very good and a lot of fun but as with most of us I'm getting the gottatryadifferentbikeitus Bigok

TIA

The ergos are great for me. I'm 6' with a 31" inseam. I can get the balls of both feet down easily and can almost flat foot it if I get real cozy with the tank. The reach to the bars is fine from the factory for me but I have a long torso. I can imagine that some folks would want to bring the bars up and back a bit.

ride200mi (or anyone else),

Can you please explain this to me?  Do not all hard saddle bags (whether it's a Sprint ST/GT, Futura, etc.) require a key to open/close them?  I may be paranoid, but that's actually one of the reasons I'm looking into buying a sport-tourer with factory bags.  The soft, zippered luggage I use on my SV650 doesn't give me any peace of mind when I stop somewhere.

Thanks.

The Futura can go both ways. The latch is in a way that you can ride without locking them. The GT can not. They have to be locked to secure them onto the bike. In any case, I haven't seen an OEM hard bag that won't lock or keep things secure while you are away from the bike.

I'm 6' tall with a 34" inseam. For my knees, the pegs are a little close to the seat for a long day. I've dropped them 30mm with some nifty MV Vario brackets. Reach to the bars is fine. Really is a sweet handling bike.

6', 32" inseam. I am comfortable on the bike for 300 miles rides, the only discomfort I have is the back of my knees after a few hours. littlefield, I am curious about the MV vario pegs - where did you get them and how long did the install take?

Twistedthrottle. They're listed under Sprint ST but the GT is the same. Installation takes about an hour. There's a snap ring on one end of the pivot pin and a roll pin on the opposite end that need removing to get the peg off the bracket. There's enough adjustment on the shifter and brake pedals to reposition them.

I've never seen the bags on the ST, but on the GT this is absolutely not the case. The lock cylinder has 2 positions, one for locked and one for unlocked. In both of these positions the bags are securely attached to the bike, and in the unlocked position (where I generalyl leave mine) you press on a latch to open and shut the bags.

Huh... I'll have to take a closer look at mine. Thanks.

I dont own either but I have sat on both. IMO, the ergos are very similiar. Both have a little more lean than I would like, which really disappoints me because I really want to like the GT. It is otherwise just what I am looking for. Legs are not overly cramped, but that is harder to judge without riding.

Dimension wise, I am 71" tall, 32" inseam.

6', 32" Inseam, I only rode the ST for a short 10 mile ride and i did not not like it, but i have almost 3K on my GT and love every minute of it.  It did take a few miles for me to get used to the slightly leaned over positioning, the previous bike was a Tiger.
