Josh Evin left us last year while riding on a backroad near his hometown of Castlegar, B.C.. An inspiration to kids in the area and worldwide, Josh was a professional skateboarder, a proud full-blooded doukhobour, local business owner, and an incredible human being.

In his honor, we will be hosting a short motorcycle cruise on June 11th at 9 a.m. from Nelson to Kaslo/New Denver to Slocan City for his memorial skateboard jam at the new skatepark, which starts at noon.

If you live in the area, and would like to see some great skateboarding, music and hopefully some interesting motorcycles, definitely join us, or show up at Slocan City Skateboard Park between 12 and 10 p.m.. Feel free to join the facebook event page to receive updates. Make sure to tell your neighbors to bring their kids, there will be prizes, food and fun in the most beautiful valley on earth!

On Sunday, there will be a longer cruise to be discussed and announced, likely starting in Slocan City.

I will be out of town on a bike trip at that time. Best of luck with the event. He certainly was well known in these parts.

You might want to introduce yourself if you are a local. A few riders from the area on this board.

I did not know Josh Evin.  I was riding on Blewett Road one day last year, though, and was curious about the large number of people milling around the bridge that day.  There were no emergency personnel, just a lot of people...this was before the display of skateboards, etc. that was put up on the bridge railing.  I only found out later that a motorcyclist had died at that spot earlier that day.

If I'm available on the 11th, I may do the ride (or part of it).

BTW, although never particularly good at it, I skated a lot back in the 70s (and I still have a steel plate in my arm from an experience in the North Vancouver park, back when it was new).  The skills translated well to snowboarding when I got into that in the 80s, but I kinda stopped skating after that.

Hi guys, my name is Mike and i live in Vancouver. I grew up in the West Kootenays (Castlegar and Nelson), but never had the chance to enjoy the highways when i lived there, as the only bikes i got to ride were ct trail bikes. I build and ride vintage Harleys now and needed something a bit more rain-friendly this year, hence my new pride and joy, an 05 sprint st. I ride all year round, and was craving comfort. Bikes without front fenders are predictably more dangerous, and sorta disgusting depending on what street the water is being flung onto your face from.  Lol   I spend most of my time pinstriping choppers, hot rods, etc. and doing laps around the gulf islands and lower mainland. Last weekend was an Okanagan trip, next week Powell River, Cortes Island for oyster fest after that, and the one im most excited for, the West Koots!

Ive been looking at all the great pictures and opinions on this forum for a while now, amazing stuff, i just had to join up. Definitely look forward to seeing many more nice rides and hearing the stories of the Canadian riders.

@ bubba zanetti - Im Lynnene's middle son, she had mentioned you before, and told me you used to ride a sprint as well and i had already seen your postings on this forum. Small world!!!!

stewbot,

I hope the event goes off well. Alas, I am headed the same direction as Bubba that weekend, or I would happily join in. Hopefully there will be an event next year as well.
