Husqvarna announced a few weeks ago that, thanks to the financial backing of BMW, they will be entering the streetbike market with FIVE new models.

Will they be like the Mille-3 concept recently shown, which seems more like a rolling identity crisis than a viable model?

News today is that Husqvarna has revealed their new 900cc engine, which closely resembles the F800 from BMW.

Husqvarna's statement reads: "Husqvarna has reached a significant milestone in its long history by developing a street bike that will create an innovative new riding concept. This will focus on a unique combination of performance and versatility, with the pleasure and fun of riding the machine.

"For this ambitious project to be successful, selecting the best engine set-up had to be of primary importance. The joint decision taken with BMW’s engine development team in Munich was to go for the highly reliable and technologically advanced BMW F 800 R's  800cc twin-cylinder engine. This would then be adapted to the specific needs of Husqvarna’s new bike concept.

"The engine capacity has been upgraded to 900cc and many of the main components have been reworked to meet specific needs. This allows a reasonable increase in power and torque, which translates into an outstanding and fun riding experience."

What do you expect will come from Husqvarna, and how will they prevent stepping on the toes of their parent company, BMW, who already has a fairly well-rounded offering based on their F800 engine?

Well, it's BMW. They throw money at everything. It's corporate policy.

The logic behind this, however, is not to beat Honda or Harley in street bike sales, but rather to offer current and would-be Husky dealers a broader line. Pretty tough to survive on just Husky or KTM dirt bike sales (ask any KTM dealer).

Will it work? Beats me. But I've looked at the new generation Huskys and wouldn't complain if one showed up in my garage. They're making some interesting bikes . . .

Stand out seems to equate "wtf," in both bike and car concepts . . . this one, though I THINK I can see what they're going for, just makes my teeth hurt, it is so styled for style's sake . . ..

I concur with the statement that diversity is generally good.

but...

The thing in the video is dreadful.

Husky should focus on a dual sport bike.  Something dependable, with good range, decent off road prowess, and powerful enough to hit *fun* speeds on pavement.

A simple $8500 version of a F800GS.

Just now watched the vid. I realize it's a concept bike, but I didn't know they allowed blind people to do design work. Gives a whole new meaning to the word "fugly."

Maybe they should focus on reliable wiring for the models they do have before bringing out any new ones, but I don't really care I won't buy one anyway. The only thing I know about the Italians is that when the Germans are working with them, the whole world should be afraid.

Variation is good but this bike is targeted to that demographic that thinks the Diavel has too much power but is just not ugly enough.

If Charlie Sheen designed a bike - this is what he would come up with.

Here are MCN’s predictions for the five future Huskys:

1. Stripped down naked 800, using BMW’s parallel-twin. Direct rival: MV’s new Brutale 675.
2. Stylish city commuter, using BMW’s 650cc single. Direct rival: Yamaha MT-03.
3. Big supermoto, using bored out F800 motor. Direct rival: Ducati Hypermotard.
4. Stylish flattracker, again using the F800 engine. Direct rival: none.
5. Adventure bike, using bored out F800 engine. Direct rival: Triumph Tiger 800.

This Husky is like a KTM SuperDuke- an acquired styling taste. The real beauty willl be in how well it functions. I bought my '08 SuperDuke, without ever laying eyes on one, from a vendor on this site. While the styling doesn't trip my trigger like my '06 MV Agusta Brutale 910R Gladio, the way the bike performs more than makes up for it. I'm betting this Husky will be in the same vein.

That comparison to the Superduke seems very apt.  It looks to me like the Nuda will be at an equal or higher level of finish to the KTM.  IMO the design is a lot cleaner and straight-forward on the Husky.

Husky is promising to have the Nuda 900 in showrooms before the end of the year.*  Banana  I hope it has a real-world sized gas tank greater than 4.5 gallons.

*Hopefully that includes US showrooms.

from http://www.husqvarna-motorcycles.com/en/nuda900.php

Why a street bike from Husqvarna? Actually there is a long tradition of street bikes for Husqvarna – before the famous area of off-road products. So the step for the brand is not really that big. In addition we see a great potential to grow in this direction, providing thrilling products including true Husqvarna DNA

In recent weeks the media all around the world have shown the sketches and then pictures of a prototype.

The relationship between BMW and Husqvarna is without doubt stronger and more harmonious than ever, and this new product is the first in a completely new segment for our more than one hundred year old brand.

This 900 combines Husqvarna's traditional sporting nature with BMW's engineering, technology and reliability. And this is just the start!

Our future road bikes will continue to have Husqvarna's DNA and, above all, its concept of riding based on pleasure, power and flexibility.

Husqvarna is the newcomer to the BMW Group and we aspire to attract and engage young motorcyclists with our innovative and thrilling concept of the road motorcycle as a means of achieving pure riding pleasure.

Choosing the right engine was vital in an ambitious project like this. The core is the parallel 800cc two cylinder engine also seen on the BMW F800R, but modified to give the bike a more aggressive, racing character.

To reach this aim the engine was upgraded, increasing the capacity to 900cc and many internal components were modified to improve the performance of the power and torque curve.

This new model will have more than 100 horsepower, will be very easy to handle thanks to its great lightness and the linear, fluid nature of the engine which bursts powerfully and controllable into action at the touch of the throttle.

The components will be top-notch too, just like our Husqvarna racing bikes: fork from Sachs, Öhlins shock absorber (both fully adjustable), Brembo Racing brakes, and many small details in carbon fibre, sport exhaust system with an exhaust valve and much more.

All this comes with an aesthetically pleasing appearance and a sexy, seductive and typically Italian style.

The bike will be in the showrooms by the end of the year.

Too bad we don't have the technology or the know-how to install nicer mirrors and blinkers.

I prefer this - the MOAB street scrambler 650 single. It would also be good with the 900 twin.

Now they even have Brad Pitt pimping the Nuda.  Yeah.. ok... now bring it to the States already!

BMW Motorrad

When you’re one of the most photographed people in the world, it can be almost impossible to go anywhere in public, unless you ride a motorcycle of course. This is why many A-list celebrities, including Brad Pitt, enjoy the anonymity that comes from putting on a safety helmet, starting the engine and riding off undetected into the distance.

Motorcycle enthusiast Pitt is a long-time fan of the BMW brand and a skilled rider, having successfully completed off-road training on a legendary GS boxer-twin at the Hechlingen Enduro Park in Germany. However, the latest bike to capture the attention of the revered Hollywood actor and film producer is the Nuda 900 R – a brand new machine in an entirely new generation of street motorcycles from Husqvarna.

Featuring a BMW-developed, Husqvarna-tuned 900cc engine in an exposed trellis frame, the sporty Nuda is equipped with top-grade, race-bred components and proudly displays Husqvarna’s distinctive red and white competition colours. Universally acclaimed by motoring journalists on its recent launch in Sardinia, Pitt was one of the lucky few who had a chance to ride the Nuda 900R before it went on sale to the public.
