Ive been riding a XR1200 for a couple years now and it serves me very well for light touring. I have a set of soft bags that hold a rainsuit, change of clothes and a couple of repair items (tire kit, multi tool) which is all you really need. Up untill 09 i had ridden hard core sport bikes but could no longer take the riding position so i got the XR. It has a really nice seating position and since the engine is rubber mounted the ride is really nice. This is no rice rocket by any means but the handling is pretty damn good and with 90 hp it is no slug and when you step off you can stand up straight. Ive added a vance and hines exhaust, patriot fuel controller, and a corbin seat, good to go.

Sounds like a perfect match Thumbsup  My friend has had his since the 1st day they were available and it sounds like you've sorted yours nicely. The only negatives I noted were the OEM pipes were prone to contacting the ground in a bad way and the seat SUCKs. They're cool bikes and I hope HD supports the model as it deserves.

I do as well. With the few changes it has made a really nice bike and it reminds me of the superbikes of the late 70's and early 80's.

It is the H-D accessory luggage rack frame with a Givi Monolock case on it.   Along with the H-D accessory tank bag, sport screen and speed triple mirrors.

Did you upgrade the suspension.  Chief complaint I've heard is that the XR's suspension is very rough and bumps will go up your spine.  I had an '06 Bonneville that was fun but a brutally harsh ride.  Progressive rear shocks didn't help and I was in major back pain after riding it everyday so I got rid of it.

FWIW I didn't find the suspension rough at all on the XR that I demoed.  And that was a couple o years ago i.e. before it got the suspension upgrade.

My gf was on the back of the bike, so 2 up weight was about 260lbs.  I did not adjust anything on the bike.
