Thought I'd share mod I made to my 2008 Ultra Classic. I removed the unsightly Battery Tender pigtail adapter and replaced it with a Powerlet socket. The socket can be used for battery charging and heated clothing. Another benefit is I can use the same Battery Tender plug on my BMW and Harley. No more changing adapters.

I mounted the socket in the right side heat shield. I chose this location because it's a safe distance from the exhaust pipe.

The Powerlet kit comes with 14AWG wire enclosed in tubing and a high-temp silicon boot that covers the back of the socket.

This pic shows what comes with Powerlet kit #PKT-024. Price is about $40 with shipping (www.powerlet.com).

Looks like a good alternative to drilling a hole in the side cover.  There is a harley  power source that plugs into existing wiring that might have been even easier to wire(pt# 91843-97) but I don't know that you can charge through it. but I do like this location better.

I didn't go with the HD part because is it's not waterproof, cannot be used for charging, and doesn't look as tidy as the Powerlet.
