I've been hearing this a bit lately on some reviews.. That until 4-5k it's sleepy.. Any thoughts?  I really do like torque at all levels.. the new Ninja 1000 apparently doesn't suffer from this.

Take ten minutes and pull the secondary butterflies.  Eight screws and you have all the torque you want.

Really? It's that easy? What does it do exactly?  What is the downside to doing that?  Less smooth? Seems to good to be true.

Yup.  It's that easy.  It's a totally different bike below 5-6k now.

Yeppers. Pull the fuel tank, or at least prop it up, and remove the two covers on top of the frame. The secondary butterflies are controlled by the ECU, and limit low end power. Remove them, and you have an electric drill motor for an engine. Cool

Do a quick google search on "c14 remove flies" before you do it. The process is really that easy, but there are a few little tricks that will help cut down on the Rave  Mad2 caused by stripping or dropping a screw. Well worth a little research...

And why does Kawasaki limit the low-end to begin with?    Headscratch   Do they have an imaginary target market that they think the restrained power fits better?

My guess is fuel consumption and/or environmental regulations on exhaust emissions.

Not really.  They would just land on the primary butterflies.  Just be sure not to twist the throttle while fishing them out.  Smile

That said, the little magnetic picker upper sucks the screw up like a vaccuum.

just to improve low-end power control and rideability for your average unskilled rider. Everyone on here should remove the flies... Cool

If you don't want to remove the screws you can have the ECU programmed for the flies to open much earlier in the RPM range.

removing the flies at 26 hp in the 3000-5000 rpm range.  Can you say 2nd gear wheelies.  Careful though she will spin the tire.  By far the best mod to this bike.  pull the flies and let her breath.

As mentioned above, there is a guy in Pennsylvania (IIRC) that has found the way to reprogram the ECU to operate the flies so that you no longer have to remove them. Check out the Connie C14 forum for details and address.

I think the ECU re-program would pretty much void your warranty since the entire bike is a gigantic electronic monster.

A set of mid range velocity stacks compliment the fly removal quite nicely. My ZX14 laid down 186/109 with these mods and a Muzzy full exhaust.

What  do you speak of here.  Where would one look for these velocity stacks?
