You know Scott, sure hope this motorcycle will help me turn around again, like it did so long ago. It was total disrespect for someone on a motorcycle forum to "sweep" a member under the rug with the attempt to wipe Viet Nam from the map. I do not care if it was written when drunk. I meant what was said. We as veterans never got the respect that we deserve. Tell that "Orson" fellow, I'm asking, "what do you know about living boy"?. Don't verbalize too much with people. However, I do express things in writing. Thank goodness, Jesus, is no respecter of persons, That man digging out of a trash can for something or, panhandling for a drink, is as good as you or me in Jesus' eyes. Hell, he may once have been better. Sorry for my "wearing my heart on the shirt sleeve", so to speak. Maybe, the only people who like me are family and the fighters that I train. But, it'll do.
I wouldn't say your in the minority in oyur thinking. Hell, in my job I see the worse of the worse. And I mean the worse. In fact, I have put alot of people away in federal prison for their lives! Does it make me happy, with a smile as I type, YES! Because there are bad people out there. As far as the panhandlers and people we look down on at times, your right. People fall on hard times and yes, are destined to the street or shelters. I try not to look down upon these people because tomorrow I could be in their place.
As far as religion and peoples views, I try to stay away from it on the forums mainly due to the mod and creater's rules. My job has made me cynical and a people hater to a degree. Mainly due to all the evil there is around us. Oh, don't get me wrong, I like honest hard working people that do the right thing. Love my dogs because a dog loves you unconditionally. My plan is to retire in 13 years with my agency then buy alot of land and insulate myself from the degrading society we live in. Do some farming and go for rides on whatever motorcycle I have at the time.
Keep your head up and know one thing, these forums will elicit bold responses because we all know, everyone is a ex-Navy Seal on these forums and Billy Badass! Me, I am just a person who likes riding and the ocassional cigar with a cold beer!

So....did you end up with a bike yet? Can't beat the weather this weekend for riding (here anyway). Especially with all of the rain. I've had 2 trips to the mountains derailed because of the weather this month

No, I'm waiting for my bike that now, Yamaha has said they are sending by the end of August. Nater, send some of the rain here! We are in a severe drought in North Fla. Anyway, with the small talk aside, you are a good man. I can tell. And, you are right. Beer has never done me any favors except allowed me to express. But, in this expression you get the best and worst of both worlds. Not making excuses. I'm just explaining the way it is for me. Thankyou, though for your friendship. Maybe, if it's in the cards, we will someday meet up on motorcycles somewhere.

What do you do for a living Scott? Man, I love you too unconditionally! I keep coming back here because, I'm soon to get my bike too. There is something to some of you folks that ride bikes. I've remembered it from so long ago, when I rode. I'm sorry that this "orson" fellow feels like he has to be so politically correct. That's your problem man. Maybe, sometime Scott, you, nater, and I, will meet together on bikes.

I don't know why moving a topic has caused hard feelings. That wasn't my intent.
I simply moved your topic to Region 5 because you mentioned your trip the Nantahala region. There wasn't any political motivation, just basic forum maintenance.
If the Beginner's Section has topics unrelated to motorcycling, a beginner would have to sift through the topics to find the ones about motorcycles.
Once again, sorry we got off on the wrong foot and welcome to ST.N

Orson, I know you meant no offense. And, I apologize for my "harshness". But, know this. When people are expressing things on a site, no matter what it is about, for some of us, Memorial Day is what it is. My little sister is dying from cancer . She is 47. The same year as my Dad when he died from it. Hell, I do not feel a part here anyway. After all, what right do I have to be here or anywhere on a motorcycle site to say anything. Don't ride a scooter. Just waiting for one. But, know this everyone. You can keep these sites with your head in the sand all you want and talk about nothing but motorcycles. Yes, I look forward to (and envy) what you people experience. Then, maybe I'll talk about a whole lot of nothing too. Sure hope my bike will fix me. It did before along a time ago. I too, want to talk about nothing but, my motorcycle.

no. did you miss the part where he said it's been 36 years since last rode a bike? a few points to consider:
it's amazing how rusty people can get after just a winter off from riding, let alone years off.
none of us has a clue as to his level of skills back when he did ride. i've run ERC classes at rallies, and have seen some riders that must have ridden their bikes to the raly in the back of a pickup, as their skills were amazing horrible.
many riders have been riding for 20+ years, but with the amount they learn (or fail to), it is really just "year one", repeated 20 times.
MSF offers more than just teh BRC. for a I-used-to-ride guy, maybe the ERC/BRC2 would be a good chioce.
All you know about his previous experience is that he thinks an R900 was faster than a Z1.
