I've revised my upcoming BBG1500 route and it takes me through SLC freeways along the route. Are there any times on weekends when traffic sucks on the freeways through SLC? Attached a map with the route through. That's my only real concern with the route, the rest should be high speed cruising, all 1575 miles of it  Crazy

You SHOULD be okay on the weekend IMO. However sometimes they do construction/lane restrictions at "off times."

Check here for some construction details. You're not spending much time on I-15 so you may not find it relevant.

Boy, that route is gonna be a snoozefest... Although I-80 East of SLC and bits of I-70 East of I-15 are interesting.

Thanks for the tip Smile

And yeah, the route is boring, but it's just for miles this ride. And I know all those roads well, so no surprises.

You're coming back on I-70... near the end when time seems to compress on an IBA ride.
You do know about the Glenwood Canyon lower deck being worked on, and EB traffic being shunted to the WB lane? 40mph speed limit thru that stretch...

That was the worst of any road construction I saw coming back from Moab recently.

I know those roads too, unless you hit a nasty windstorm in southern Wyoming it should be smooth sailing.

My route for a BBG is even more boring....Flagstaff and back.  Lol

I did not know they were working in Glenwood Canyon again. Grrrr - that's like the best 10 miles of the whole route too Smile

I tinkered with the Flagstaff idea as well, but so far have not been able to nail down a circular route that works well and accounts for all miles. Did you just go there and back on the same route? I may play with that idea as well though. Another thought was heading up to Gillette WY, over to Sioux Falls SD, Down to Omaha NE and then home. That route seems easier, as a stop in each four corners with a shortest route is 1570 miles. I have a few weeks yet to nail down my route, so we'll see.

For my BB1500 I did a more Northern route.  Started in Wellington, CO, took I-25 N up to Billings, took I-90 over to Butte, I-15 down to SLC and 80 back to Wellington for 1,570 miles.  Easy route with no traffic, wind kind of sucked in spots though.   Not sure what kind of spring Montana is having, but the only real elevations your riding in is when you get close to Butte.  I-15 going South to Idaho is neat for a little while, but eastern Idaho is as flat as a pancake.  Actually, most of that route is except for the area around Butte and Park City.

If you are starting in Northern Colorado and need a witness give me a shout.  Have fun!

Edit: since you are going for the Gold, that route is a good way to guarantee a SS1000/BB1500 and if you're too tired to go for the gold, SLC is a bale out at 1100 miles.

Yeah, I've been knocking around a few different routes. The one posted, one down to Flagstaff, and one up to Gillette, over to Sioux City, down to Omaha and back. I'm leaning towards either UT/NV or NM/AZ the most, as I know the roads well, and know I can maintain *high* speeds.

Thanks for the offer, but I'll be starting closer to home. Don't want to ride any more miles than I have to. Although I was contemplating maybe throwing another 500 miles in at the end to get a SS2000 as well Smile

Right on.  If you do get the BBG done you'll have 24 hours to get the last 500!  I had about 16 hours left to go for the SS2000 on mine and the thought definitely crossed my mind to go that last 430 miles, but at that point I was ready for a tall glass of whiskey, and I needed a new rear tire..........

Yeah, can do 500 miles and get in 12 hours sleep and a 1 hour dinner and 1 hour breakfast in 24 hours Smile
