waiting...

I'm sitting at home right now waiting to my new helmet to arrive via UPS. Took the day off from work to hopefully ride around a little bit in my quiet neighborhood before I hit the busier streets on my first motorcycle. I've been wanting to get a bike for, oh, 20 years? something like that. Biggest problem is through 15 years of marriage my wife would always say, "I HATE motorcycles! If you want to get one plan on finding a new wife ect... blah blah blah" I wish I could say I'm gonna miss that woman but in all honesty....
That's pretty much how i feel. Not to say I left to be able to ride... there were a long list of stuff not right, that being just a small thing that used to eat at my nerves.
Anyone else have a significant other that doesn't like/want you to ride and been given ultimatums?
So...
Took the MSF course back in October, got a little tax refund money i didn't expect this year and bought a 1996 VFR from my MSF instructor. She has just over 6k miles and is in near flawless shape...for now
I have a riding jacket, some gloves, and still need to get bots and riding pants and probably some warmer gloves later on to be completely protected. I...just...need...helmet!

Have fun on the bike today and be carefull. I had a few girlfriends that didn't like riding, not the same as a wife but its all the same hearing
blah blah blah
about how dangerous motorcycles are.
Also post pics of that VFR.

What you need to do is start planning, right now, to ride up to SD for the national meet. Or even the ESTN meet in May over in Sparta NC.
Put some miles on the VFR. Safer riding on the interstate than anound town anyway. Will give you lots of confidence after you do it.

My girlyfriend's grandfather, dad, and brother all rode/ride. So she's always been on bikes which is one of the reasons I started dating her. I have never understood ultimatums
. Personally I wouldn't put up with it either.
Welcome to the club
. Ride safe.

Yeah, I got ultimatums like that from both my ex-husbands. I don't miss them either.
Enjoy the Viffer! If I could have found one in blue while I was shopping around for a sport type, I probably would have gotten it instead of the Zee. But I'm loving the Zee so it's all good.
Ride safe, and if you haven't already found it, check out
www.vfrdiscussion.com
They'll have good information on your VFR, if/when you have questions.

Congrats!
I can't wait to hear about your first few rides on the viffer. Where are you located??
As for SOs and riding... I never had a problem with that. Things didn't work out for other reasons, but I taught my ex-boyfriends how to ride

Well... waited pretty much all day for the helmet to get here, I think it finally came at about 4:30 in the afternoon and as much as I wanted to get out and ride I decided to wait till Saturday morning. I hadn't been on a bike since Oct. of 2k6 when i took the MSF course and wanted to get out for the first time when the least amount of traffic would be present, so...
Headed out Saturday morning and up the road maybe half a mile is this huge warehouse building with lots and lots of pvement
I tolled around for the better part of an hour just working on getting my throttle smooth enough for me to feel comfy riding around in traffic. On my way back home I passed another rider heading in the opposite direction and he waved, that put a grin on my face you couldn't smack off
Gave some weird sense of acceptance within the motorcycling community which is really cool.
This morning(Sunday) I went back to the parking lot for all of about 30 seconds when I figured, heck, time to grow a set son and get out there and trust all you've read and learned over almost a year. Man am I glad I did. I notice a HUGE improvement from yesterday and feeling alot more comfortable.
I still am a complete noob though... keep looking down at the directionals to make sure they're shit off... if i didn't completely forget about them... and still need to gain more confidence in my turns. Couple of times I felt really good about the way I looked though and nice, smooth throttle throughout the turn but wasn't completely satisfied. With certain things i'm kind of a perfectionist about and i can see riding technique being one of them.
All in all was a great moring ride through the back roads making the neighborhood dogs bark
If I knew how to post pictures of me and the bike i would. Is there a website or a thread that shows you how to do that stuff? I'm not really a computer guy and would never figure it out.
Rincewind : I had been bouncing around to different motorcycle stores for months trying on different helmets. A couple of guys i work with suggested I go with Arai and I tried on Vectors, profiles, one other one i can't think of at the moment and although they are one of the finest helmets my head seemed to like the way Shoei fits so, after finding a store with shoei helmets and trying on a few I'm very satisfied with the RF-1000. I ordered it online to save a few bucks. My local guy only sells HJC and although I wanted to buy from him to support the neighborhood bike shop, I just liked the Shoei helmet and ordered it.
Thanks for the kind words of encouragement, people on this forum are pretty dam cool

Welcome to our addiction!
I still remember the first wave I received, on my first venture in traffic.
