The Missoula to Kalispell road is a highway, often busy, not much to see.
If you have time, go via Seeley and Swan lake, along the east side of Flathead, etc.  it's a much more rural 2 lane.  Nice ride, and actually will take only a bit more time.

+1

Also, instead of continuing on hwy 2 into Libby, try McKillop Creek Rd / Fisher River Rd from Loon Lake to Libby Dam. Its a lovely road that enhances your journey without adding any extra time at all.

Yeah, I meant 'east BC'.... the BC/Alberta border is much further East than I would like to go...

Yes, but once you get up north of Flathead Lake, cut west on Bubba's route so you can do the Libby to Eureka run. Also the 83 (Seeley and Swan Lake) has more deer than your typical forested road so keep your eyes open.

I have taken this route several times in the summer and curse the portion along the lake every time, it is usually VERY busy, not my preferred route, the east side is a lot of fun ,but again busy and best in the early spring or fall, summer is crazy

Hey Mike,
it will be great to see you back!   Maybe you can hook up with Winslo from Hinton for the ride down.

Hey Winslo,
it will be great to see you and it would be great to see your passenger too!  Last time at the lake I recall you bringing quite a bit of equipment (camper, boat)........and a lot of fun times!   Mikebr from Edson is also coming,  he knows his way well.  Now consider yourselves introduced.

Looking forward to seeing both you northern Albertans!

Can you actually see a northern Albertan? Aren't they -like- transparent from the lack of sun?

Sadly,  Mrs. Birdrunner is likely staying at home for this one.

On the other hand, Mr Birdrunner, is likely to be able to get a couple extra days out of it.

AND at least now I won't have to be on my best behavior.

Note:

There is a chance Going to the Sun road will not open this year,   lots of damage from a late spring storm.

I am hoping to leave a day early, (or two ) travel around Glacier from St. Mary's to West Glacier, and stay in Eureka Thursday night.

Eureka is a cool town, with $5.00 camping two blocks from an excellent pub/restaurant.
Friday to Bubba's via east side of the lake to Libby and Yahk should be a great ride.

Wouldn't mind company is anyone's interested.

I'm very disappointed. After leaving Castlegar I had plans to ride to Calgary on the 24th to meet my wife and daughter for a few days in Cowtown together. Now she has work obligations and can't get to Calgary until the 26th. This means I am going to have to spend the 24th and 25th in the Kootenays with nothing but a motorcycle and then ride to Calgary on the 26th. Oh dear. Whatever shall I do for those two days. The things I have to put up with. Sigh.  Wink
