So, I'm riding through Silverton yesterday, when I see this on a guy's front lawn.  I just had to turn around to check it out.  Spoke to Ron (didn't get his last name) for a while--interesting guy!  I've met him once before, but I'd never seen this particular machine before (last year he was running a rather odd machine with a 500cc snowmobile engine...this one will have a motorcycle engine...).  Apparently, Ron runs down to Bonneville every August to run his creations during Speed Week...he holds a number of records (in relatively obscure classes, I believe).

That's a cool looking bike.

Here in Vancouver we have a local crazy named Tom Mellor, who has a partially modified, normally aspitirated 1963 Triumph 750 that he races at Bonneville. He has set some CRAZY records on that thing.

There's also some guy in Abbotsford, I think, who has a dragster that his teenage daughter drives at Bonneville...

It was cool, though, to be just riding along through Silverton (which is a pretty small town, if you'd even call it that...) and see this thing is someone's front yard.

I'd met this guy before.  Here are some pics of the bike he ran at Bonneville last year (note the same "David Bradley" walk-behind tractor outrigger:

Just a note--passing through Silverton yesterday, stopped and talked to Ron Scroggins again--he won another record, on the bike in the OP photos: 500 modified sidecar class, I'm not sure what the top speed was (results aren't posted yet).   Apparently, there were some tense moments when the body broke loose from the bike frame at around 100 mph EEK!  I say, way to go Ron!

BTW, he's already pulled the 500cc single he used for this year's run, and plans to install a GSX-R600 engine (uh, slightly modified Wink ) for the 2012 Speed Week...
