There are rumblings that due to the illegal immigrants pouring in from Africa & Asia, that EU countries might put border controls back in place
That would be sad indeed. The Wengen space is tremendous compared to our US - Canada border. No borders for European nationals. Although Switzerland isn't part of that, the worst we got was a Swiss border guard turn around, look at us for a second and just wave us through.
We did however see the Finanzia, the Italian finance police, check cars coming from livignio. They don't check at the borders but catch you in places you can't avoid them.
They're mostly looking for contraband.

Been there, had lunch at the cafe up top and got to admire some seriously cool old bikes. Keep a picture of Stilsfer Joch/Stelvio on my desk at work.

No bike involved, you can't get there by road in winter, but this is me at the Col de l'Iseran last year. One day I will go there by bike in summer and take the corresponding photo.

From yesterday's ride:
Not the highest pass we crossed- just the highest during daylight hours.

This picture is amazing! It's like the earth has a fold in it. Another place I need to see.
