Is that the drive failure I've heard about?

Nope that just a look at BMW's quality. That person drove the wheel off his/her bike.

Shouldn't there be some obligatory pics of Dante's Tranny in various states of disassembly / disrepair at Chateau neuf de Frenchie?

And they made him pay the labor for fixing that. WTF? BMW sounds more and more like VW every day. They must have something in common.

I assume it was out of warranty.
My buddy's ZX-12R ate a crank bearing just outside warranty.
Kawi could have told him to sod off, but they arranged for free parts, he had to pay the dealer's labour.
Turned out to be about a 50/50 deal in the end.

Scary stuff when you look at the very small bump that caused it.

I'd guesstimate that a (series of) earlier BIG bump(s) cracked it..

Here's mine; the front sprocket cover is still on in this photo, but it's missing teeth.
Not as interesting as the other photos, but it was still exciting to have the chain jump off at 70mph.

Not caused it, finished it. May have been a MUCH larger bump earlier on in its history...
