I assume it was out of warranty.

My buddy's ZX-12R ate a crank bearing just outside warranty.

Kawi could have told him to sod off, but they arranged for free parts, he had to pay the dealer's labour.

Turned out to be about a 50/50 deal in the end.

I'd guesstimate that a (series of) earlier BIG bump(s) cracked it..

Here's mine; the front sprocket cover is still on in this photo, but it's missing teeth.  

Not as interesting as the other photos, but it was still exciting to have the chain jump off at 70mph.  Lol

Not caused it, finished it.  May have been a MUCH larger bump earlier on in its history...
