245 / 337 Nova Scotia

We have a shorter day from St. John,NB to Cheticamp, NS and I was thinking about straying from the superfast hwy 104 and taking what looks like a coastal and scenic route on 245 and 337. I'm wondering if this is worth it, and if how slow that road gets through the seaside towns  (is it's anything like the southern new england coast we'll stay on 104).

I was on the 245 and then 337 about 3 years ago.  I don't remember being slowed down by any towns of any size in that area.  My recollection is that the speed limit was 50-55 mph.  I was a little disappointed that we couldn't see the water the whole way but there was some fog that day and that probably contributed.  

It is very nice when you go around the tip of Cape George.  You definitely see the water there.  

You'll be slowed down when you get in Antigonish because you'll have no choice but to go through the town if you do 337 but it's not a big town.

That route is billed as a 'Mini Cabot Trail', but the 'trail' part of it really is pretty 'mini'. It's an OK change of pace though, and really doesn't take that long. The asphalt is in reasonable shape.
If you get a few minutes, stop at the Arisaig fossils site. It only takes a 1/2 hour or so to walk down to a pretty weird beach with neat fossils. The Cape George harbour has an interesting sword-fishing exhibit and there is a chip wagon if it's lunch time...
