We did a nice little 1661km loop into BC over the last three days.  Enjoyed the 31A, looped through Vernon and got home just a little while ago.

We lost track of the number of speed traps we saw Rolleyes, they sure seem to be enforcing their 40 over impound laws.  Fortunately, I only got caught at 30 over! Embarassment

He wrote the ticket for $138 & I get $25 off if I send the payment within 30 days, so I can't really complain.  Sucks to get caught when you're just sorting yourself out from passing a bunch of turkeys that speed up after putting around the corners.

Who says a KLR can't go "fast enough" Lol Cool

Typical long weekend crack down. I usually try to plan rides outside the long weekend but Liz and I were on our way back from the coast, I must say though they were being very lenient,  Crazy  at least to an old guy and an Adventure, even got a wave from one of the motorcycle cops.

Oh yes, we knew they were out there.  All the rest of them didn't have a reason to give our speeds a second glance, this one had a great hiding place & was shooting a busy passing lane.  Very sneaky.

Coming back into Edmonton Saturday after a ride in the countryside, on the Henday (ring road, if they ever get it finished) there were five Sheriff cars scattered over half a km with lights flashing and unfortunates pulled over.  No sign of a radar trap and I can't image that many cars getting run down at once.  They must have been using an airplane spotter.  Sneaky too.

p/s I often dreamed about adding a trunk and windshield to a Monster to make a weekend sport-tourer.  (Decided to convert a CBR instead.)  Why would you prefer the KLR to your Monster for this type of ride?

For this type of weekend ride, it is actually a toss up as to which bike to ride.  Since this was our first trip out of town for the season, I wanted to ride the easier bike.  Big dual sports really are very easy to ride.  I also have now put over 66,000km on my KLR, so I have a huge familiarity with the bike, and I enjoy riding it.  For longer trips, I choose the KLR for the ease of packing and also the ease of riding.

I have a small set of soft sidebags for the Monster, and have devised a method of strapping the tank bag I use on my KLR onto the tail.  The airflow with the stock windshield is very clean over my helmet, so I have no intention of trying something bigger.  Hopefully I'll be able to get the Monster out for a similar sort of ride in the near future.

Its kind of sad when you see police being used as tax collectors. And that is all the new 40kmh and over garbage is, a tax. Traffic enforcement does need to look at speed, but they also have to focus on all the other bad things that the morons wqho cause crashes do. But hey, speeding is easier to catch, and they can say: See, we wrote 1000 tickets this month. We're doing a good job!

I agree completely.  Nothing at all to do with public safety.  There are many things that could be done which would actually improve public safety, but they'd cost money, not generate revenue, so...

AJF:

Most of the Henday is a construction zone and they are nailing a ton of people doing 100+ in 50 Km/hr zones. They have radar guns up on overpasses, and then cars on the ground below stopping them.

I do feel sorry for the crews working on the ground with these kinds of speeds going on.

The Province is paying for all those billion dollar interchanges with speeding in construction zone fines.
