Harley hauling bacon

Ok, so I'm headed south Sunday afternoon on I-77 through WV. Don't give me crap for taking the super-slab I needed to get to a free bed in TN before dark. I'm cruzin at 78 mph and churn miles when a HD and his woman pop up an on ramp and start pulling away. So I pick up the pace and let him run the front door and make some time with him.
He runs it up to 110 and holds it there, I think this won't last long, so I hang with him for maybe 15 minuets.
At this point I'm thinking nobody will believe this story, cause although I have friends with HD's none of them ride them at speed for extended time... documentation is required.
So off go the gloves and out comes the iphone video.
did u ever see the monkey that rides the little dog one handed at the rodeo? yeppee i o kayyaeh!
Now for the unrecorded part... after I pass him and get his pic in the frame on the video, I stayed if front for a couple miles.
He gasses it up, came flying by with the wife holden her shirt up flopping in the wind in that Girls Gone Wild sort of way... then he hit the exit and was gone. Sure the phone was stowed by that time...

110mph on a Harley?
Impossible.
Mebbe it was one of those Hondas where they peel off the Honda sticker and put a Harley one on instead.
Only other thing I can think of is he was trying to make it to the bar before last call.

6th gear on my Dyna was tall. I wouldn't be surprised if it could pull that.
I just never had the inclination to do that with mini apes, no windshield, and umm, the fact that it's kinda out of its design envelope...

That couldn't have been a Harley. It looked like one but the passenger was wearing a Hi-Viz shirt. No Harley riders wear anything but black leather. Sorry it must have been a cheap chineese knock off or something!

I rented a Road King last year to ride to Laughlin with my HD riding friends. NV state trooper radar can confirm 100+ speeds on a stock Harley
Luckily everyone in my group except me was law enforcement, so we all pulled over and I got an honorary brass pass.

FWIW, a big twin's stock rev limit is about 5500-6000 depending on the generation. Yeah, yeah... if you're whining about the silly low redline, try to remember the gearing. Anyway...
A Stage-II head/cam kit also includes a reprogramming of the ECU and the engine revs to... 7200? 7500? RPM. Now, that doesn't seem like much, except that giving the gearing and the WAY better flowing heads and overall performance, the top-end power and speeds capable on a big twin increase dramatically.
Figure that 1500 RPM is roughly 25% of the engine's overall STOCK rev range, right? If your average big-bore I4 could magically increase its rev limit another 25%, and flowed air better than stock, imagine the possibilities. Use the FJR1300's 9K rev limit as an example. If that suddenly went to 11,500, given the FJR's gearing...
Yes, a well-built Harley without even going nuts on a full S&S replacement, or complete tear down, will develop some impressive power. Stock, out of the factory, they're built to be exactly what they are: low-revving weight moving torque pumps, and they do that very, very well.
Guess I should have added the
as I was just playing...
Also, if you notice, I also ride a "Harley" so I am fully aware of the engine. I would NOT rev that motor to 7200 or even close to 7500. Buell had to do major upgrades to the crankshaft and oil pump to achieve 7000 RPM. Also, I have seen what the stage kits can do for power upgrades (they have the dyno charts right there in the book at the dealership)...none that I saw exceeded what a Buell comes with stock. If I understand correctly, the better flowing heads is what the Buell comes with stock already, and the Buell has a better cam and higher compression as well. From what I can find a standard stage II kit will get you in the 60-80 hp range. But lets say you can upgrade a Harley engine with just top end work and ECU to 100+ hp. I can say from personal experience that 110 mph is not a walk in the park for a Buell...give it a head wind, and it will take a bit to get up there, so I can't imagine a bike with 300+ more pounds, and even worse frontal area.
I have no idea what a "full S&S" replacement is capable of, so maybe that is what this guy had....
In the end I was just yankin some chains...hehehe.
FYI - stage III kits requires EXTENSIVE mods and MAD SKILLS, and produce on average ~82hp at the wheel.

Correct, they are usually rolling roadblocks... That's why I had to document this.
As for the camera mount, it was my left thumb and 3 fingers, I had to keep my pinky extended for balance!
I may have to rig up a mount if I ever want to do this again

Keep in mind that HD motors can be worked like any other. I just sold a Sportster that would run 140MPH after alot of work.Cams, valve springs, exhaust and ignition and you are all but there. The hard part isnt getting the motor to achieve that kinda feat, its getting the bike to feel stable over 90. With that I say goodluck.

The scarlet glow bloomed, So I replaced the rear pads with aftermarket pads before this trip, sorry I didn't think the now discontinued "enlighten" pads are worth the bucks.
I stripped & connected the leads to complete the circuit, but the light stayed on.
I suspect there's a code that needs reset, but I had no time before the trip. I have the suspension link recall to address and will have it in the shop next week.
