Me & a friend are thinking about riding up on Saturday & attending Sunday's race at Indy.  Anyone else thinking of going?  If we go, it will be my first ever trip to a MotoGp event.

Bunch of us go every year, already reserved rooms in NE Indy.  Might be the last year for GP there, so might be your last chance to attend one so close.  It's a good show for sure.

Like I stated earlier, I've never been.  What we're thinking of doing is riding up Saturday...attending the race Sunday & head home when the race is over.  According to Indy's website, the race starts before 9 am.  What else goes on Sunday?  We could probably push it & come home Monday but if the race is over & have nothing else to do, might as well head toward the house.

Its 500 miles one way so right now we're planning on riding 500 miles Saturday & then 500 back home Sunday.

Thanks for the info

According to Indy's website, the race starts before 9 am.

MotoGp race starts at 2pm , practice sessions start in the morning , so realistically you won`t be able to leave speedway before 4 pm due to  parking ,traffic  and other things of that nature .

I've left a race in Ohio, Flying Horse, with the intentions of making it home to work the next day, about 500 miles. I won't do that again. It'll be late, you'll be tired, did I mention you'll leave later than you thought, then it'll be dark, ect.... I hate deer.

One thing I like about Indy is they let us stay over that night. I usually hang out w a couple from Canada that night as we're about the only people left on the camp grounds. I need a good night sleep for an 11 hour ride on the slab the next day. Wink

Since the race doesn't start until 2, then riding home Sunday is out of the question.  If we can get off work on Monday, then we're going to try to make it & after the race ride the interstate to the edge of the mountains & then take our time & hit some good curves on the way home.  May even go home via West Virginia just because.   Bigok

Fourth year for me also. Fly in Thursday night and fly out Monday morning. Perhaps we should attempt a ST.N meet-up this year ?

I'm heading down with two friends (Squidbuzz and a non ST-er).  First time for two of us.  We're meeting up south of Chicago and riding the rest of the way in together Friday night.  Maybe a coffee location should be identified as a general morning gathering spot...?

I am going. First year I bought scalped tickets and watched from everywhere.  2009 ponied up and did the VIP Village. Paddock access and catered food and bar all day. Last year did my first year ever as a corner marshall in turn 10 A which is a LONG hot day. Nice being able to go anywhere with that orange bib but the blue cotton jumpsuits are freaking hot as balls!  So now I am spoiled and have to do the VIP package. I use my points for hotel to offset the cost. I recommend Pole Position Travel to anyone thinking about since you get extra service from Gordon Howe the owner of the company. He arranges special little touches like an open bar greet at the Conrad hotel on Thursday, shuttle to the track and a special guest or two. I got to hang out and shoot the shite with Julian Ryder. Way cool.

BTW the crowd and traffic control at Indy is awesome. You can be out of there in 25 minutes. They are used to dealing with 400,000 fans.

Too bad you'll miss this on Friday Night   Speedway!

Here's the bill for Friday night  at Mid America Speedway:
MotoGP Weekend
Our big event of 2011 is the 2011 Midwest Speedway Championship, 450 Pro Shootout, and Bob Stark Indian Arrow Challenge.  This event will take place at 7:00pm Friday, August 26th which is the night before the Indy Mile.  Purse details are still being worked out, but this will be the best paying event of
our 2011 season.   Here are the classes that are being run:

*   450 Pro Flattrack class
*   16 of the fastest speedway riders in the country
*   Bob Stark Indian Arrow Challenge featuring riders on identically
prepared machines.

It's not the big time but it's a good time.
