Replacing tires in the Kootenays?
«
on:
July 12, 2011, 08:28:34 PM »
I know that there is a preponderance of members from the Kootenays on this site. So here I am in Nelson and want to get a new rear tire for my BMW R1200GS. I am prepared to ride south into Washington if needed. So any advice about local or otherwise shops to get a tire, and get it installed?
Any advice about what to get? I know that enquiry doesn't belong here. I have the Metzler Tourance Exp with about 8.5 k on them, and I don't like the wear.
Thanks

Not a whole lotta choice in this area.
In Nelson, there is Mainjet, across from Home Hardware on the way to the airport:
http://www.mainjet.ca/
Or, out near me (about 15 minutes from Nelson, near the junction of Hwy 3A and Hwy 6, which is the Slocan Valley):
http://www.playmorpower.com/
If you have any questions about the area, feel free to ask--either in this thread, or PM me (I'll PM you my phone number, too).

Not sure I can help you with the tires in the short term except Internet support ... but pm me if you get into trouble and have to wait out a tire. .K ? We have an often used ST.n room ...

I just had my rear tire mounted and balanced at Main Jet for $30. That's with me supplying the tire bought elsewhere and bringing in the wheel off the bike. I have bought gear from them but never a tire. A couple of friends have and they paid about $300 for a new rear tire!

Just wanted to thank people for their feedback. I was staying at a house without wireless, and posted originally at my brother's, and then left there, so could not respond to say thanks.
As it turned out, I didn't like the look of the tire, but decided to ride home to Quebec, with the thought that I could buy a tire en route. Ha ha. I took highway 13 across Saskatchewan, so managed to avoid any town on Saturday. I hit Winnipeg on a Sunday, so everything was shut. When I got to Thunder Bay, no one had a tire in my size in stock. So then it was to the Sault, and from there was only 800 km from home. As it turned out the tire was just hitting the bars when I got home, so 12,600 km on a Metzler Tourance EX. Not bad.

It's when you show cord that it's finally worn out.
