I was thinking about doing the LOE1000 again this year, just curious if any other members here will be?

http://www.loe1000.org/index.html

Did it back in 2005, and had fun. Was my first rally of the type and did a lot of things wrong (such as pictures at night that were not legible)  Lol - Still had fun though. After my recent BBG, I'm all pumped up for more. If I do it again this year, I'm planning on being a competitor  Thumbsup

Any one else in?

I rode in the Cal24 this year and had such a great time that I started looking for other rallies to ride in.  This one sure is appealing to me, but I just can't schedule it in this year.  Maybe we'll meet there next year though...  Cool

I considered doing it again when I had the FJR, Justin....work schedule didn't let it happen. That first one was pretty much a weekend tour of New Mexico, for me to see some stuff I hadn't before, not try and actually top ten or anything. Just another license plate frame in the stack. Lol
Turned out it wouldn't have been that tough to do well on the R1150GS Adventure...

I really liked the format that year, and it's one I'd like to do again, and now that there's an ST1300 in the garage....might be on this year's list.

Officially "in" now - page just updated today.

http://loe1000.org/entrants.html

I'll be getting my aux fuel system in order over the next few months. With the caliber of of the folks that do this rally, I wouldn't be competitive at all without it. Going with a 4 gallon tour tank, mounted on an aluminum plate straddling my SWmotech tail back rack. So the tank will be over the back seat in front of the Givi bag.

Did you mean pics of the rally or the fuel cell? If the latter, will get those posted as I make progress.

 Pics of both !
I'm curious, why extra fuel? I thought your bike could go 200mi. (or more) before empty.
If I had to guess it would be more because lack of gas stations than time spent refueling?

It is actually both. In order to be competitive in these types of rallies you really need it. Pretty much the whole field will be running aux fuel, and there are some big players as well. There would be no way to be competitive if you had to start looking for gas at 160 miles, and if you needed to make 8-10 fuel stops. Not to mention there are some sections in NM that will force you to fuel early if you have a limited range.

I, for one, would be interested in your fuel cell implementation. I'm still in the design phase for mine.
Though I think it may be easier to trade over to an FJR Rolleyes and just bolt a store-bought one on.

I will post up more details as the build progresses. I just placed my order for a 5 gallon tour tank, puke tank, bulk-head fitting, quick disconnect and other misc parts.

As for the mounting it will be very simple. I have the tail rack pictured below. That rack is attached to the sub frame with four bolts (Frankenstein bolt location in the front, and under the seat in the grab rail bolts) , and is very strong; so will no have problems carrying @ 40 Lbs of fuel and access. I can lift the bike off the ground with the rack.

http://www.twistedthrottle.com/trade/productview/4382/695/

I will just be using stainless u-bolts to attach a 1/4 aluminum plate across those bars. Seat will be removed and I will cut a foam gasket to cover the seat hole. Then I will mount the tour tank brackets to the plate to attach the tank itself. Puke tank will be hose clamped under the rear of the rack.

http://www.tourtank.com/TourTanks.html

The Tour Tank is expensive ($200), but none of the Jaz or other cells will fit between the tail bag and the rider seat - so it was the only workable option.

As to the plumbing I am going to gravity feed into the main tank using a bulk head fitting from Sampson sport touring. There will be a quick disconnect inline, and ball valve near the tank. When main tank is close to empty, I will simply throw the valve, and it will feed the main tank by gravity until the aux is empty. My mock ups show the aux tank will be just about to the top of the main tank, so there will be no problems transferring all the fuel.

http://www.sampson-sporttouring.com/hardware.html

Once complete, I will have 10.5 gallons of fuel on board, which will give me an easy 400 mile range.

I'm awaiting the arrival of my 3.5 gallon Tourtank.  Grabbed one slightly used from another LD rider for a fair price.  When it gets here, I can start the mockup on the rack and plumbing.  This should bump my range to the magical 300 number and drive my local riding buddies off the deep end.   Lol

Down to a month and a week to go!  Thumbsup Anyone else here in yet? Or am I the only on representing ST.n? If so, I'm really gonna have to try hard, not that I wasn't planning to anyway.

Bike is all ready to go  Thumbsup - 6 Gallon tank installed. Ordered up a rapid transit tank bag as well as it has a built in pouch/portal for a 2.5 liter hydration bladder.

http://www.motorcyclegear.com/parts/luggage/tank_bags/rapid_transit/recon_19_magnetic_motorcycle_tank_bag.html

It ain't pretty, but I won't be worrying about gas  Lol - 450 mile range easy.
