When mine was new I only hit 90-95 before I was scared enough to back it down. Mine would feel like you were in trucker wake once you hit somewhere between 85 and 90 even though no one was in front of you. It was what they call the Connie Dance. that big fairing just didn't slice through the wind like the newer stuff. I only had 4500 miles on my 2006 before I sold it in 2008. It was worse when you actually had trucker wake. I didn't want to have to buy a brand new bike and then replace the suspension just to get it meh.

The stock windshield has a lot to do with the connie dance. I replaced my stocker with a CB shield and it toned it down quite a bit. Tires are also a contributor, the bike is very tire sensitive.

On my way to Colorada I typically lock the throttle at 105 mph North of Gallup NM for a good 50 miles. Only way to see that fucking road. I have stock suspension and at not time did I feel uneasy (except for the Res. police going in the other direction, apparently at shift change  Headscratch). Granted this bike is not built for high speed runs at Bonneville but it is not awful either.

Okay, joking aside, is the C-10 really that difficult to push past 100? If so, I'm surprised.

Not at all... as long as at least 3 issues are addressed:

1) Windshield
2) Tires
3) Wind scoops by the feet

With my Rifle windshield, Michelin Pilot GTs, and side extenders in place of wind scoops, my Connie is rock solid up to about 110mph.  Above that, it gets a little squirly.

As others have said, the chassis has a lot of flex, so aerodynamics are paramount to keeping the bike tracking straight at high speeds.

I'll have to check the Urban Dictonary to see if there's a recent term for a 50-60 Y.O. squid.  Thumbsup  Twofinger
