Just curious - does the SMH10 have the capability to use an input from an external source - e.g. phone or MP3 player?

Yes, to supporting anything that makes stereo noise and can drive phones directly.  No to connecting a phone to the port - it's only an input and not an output port.

thanks all - does anyone know if the SENA has the "Side-tone" feature?

As I understand it, this gives you the benefit of letting you hear your own voice clearly which helps you to naturally speak at the correct level according to varying helmet noise conditions.

The Autocom has this feature......

Not that I've ever noticed.  If side-tone is supported, it's not apparent even wearing earbuds.

Does anyone know where I might find a list of supported Bluetooth devices for the Sena? I couldn't find anything on the website.....

"SHM10 can wirelessly connect to other Bluetooth devices supporting HSP/HFP (Headset Profile/Hands Free Profile) and A2DP (Advance Audio Distribution Profile). There are several demonstration video links on the websites, www.senabluetooth.com and www.youtube.com/senabluetooth. Videos demonstrate SMH10 with the most commonly used Bluetooth devices such as phones, GPS navigation systems, mp3 players, Bluetooth audio dongles, and other SMH10s. Videos cover initial pairing, connection, and basic usage which answer most common questions from users."

What do you want to pair up with it? Most devices will be able to pair easily. I use my Droid for gps and streaming tunes, but pretty much any phone made in the last 2 years will work.

Um... let me show you how well it works with the Sena earbud base plate and an HTC Incredible 2 with Gingerbread...  As I said elsewhere, when it works, it's great.  But reliable... not entirely, at the moment.

Because Sena and HTC got mentioned in the same breath; anyone experience the situation where holding down the big button to pause the music actually starts a second player?
This will happen when I start the playlist directly on the smartphone, tuck it in my pocket and ride off listening to tunes. Probably something I'm doing incorrectly on the HTC Desire Z. I'd like to see if there is a second application picking up the bluetooth commands instead of HTC's built in Music Player (green music note icon). eg. something like Windows Task Manager that would list what's running on the phone.

I use a music app called Player Pro (recommended over WinAmp - the included stuff is... not worth the effort).  When using my HTC Incredible 2 (AKA DINC2) in GPS mode, I start up Player Pro, start a play list running, and then hit the pause button.  I put the DINC2 into Car Panel mode, select the destination, and then hold down the jog knob/button until I hear a high tone.  The music starts right up.  Hold the the jog knob and turn it at the same time and you can advance or back up one or more tracks.  Make or take a phone call, the player pauses until the call's over and then resumes.  If the GPS has something to say, again, the player pauses until the GPS shuts up and then resumes where it left off.   Thumbsup Thumbsup

Mine was operating much like that with the HTC built in 'Music Player' until recently. Running Task Killer, I saw another media program running, one that I installed to play video and music in one app, so I suspect it was hijacking the bluetooth audio commands. It's uninstalled so I need to go back to the garage and check this out again.

I recently got the upgrade.  The original may have had that, but if it did, it was so quiet that it didn't help (I do wear earplugs).  The upgrade most certainly has it -- very easy nice to converse with.
