All the same reasons I love my Duc 900 supersport. The SV650s is pretty much a copy of the Duc, but with Japanese reliability and a water-cooled engine. The Duc has a little more power and better suspension, but with some upgrades on the SV they're pretty comparable.

I don't think it's much like a 900ss other than the twin.... its got an aluminum frame, significant ergonomic differences.... at least a hundred pounds?

I just got done doing some significant work to my gf's bike including a front end swap, paint and engine work. It runs like a top but remains a work-in-progress (no speedometer! - on our recent trip to Cape Breton I went 1940 miles, she went 0 miles... Lol)

You really can toss these things around too - especially one with properly set up suspension. Once I put a 636 rear shock on this there's no doubt in my mind that I'll be able to lace through a set of 2nd gear twisties faster than I can on my fireblade.

Have you looked at them side by side ('99 and later ss compared to a SV650S)? Pretty similar if you ask me. Hundred pounds? They're probably about the same weight.

60lbs heavier

I've ridden both (okay - the duc was pre 99') and they're different animals. The SV handles much better (with upgrades) and the ss pulls much harder. But to each his own.

A superhawk would probably be a much better example of a "copy" of ducati's 99+ ss...... too bad honda debuted it in 98!!! And since the SV came out in 99 - I dont think Suzuki had much time to copy them...unless they had spies in Bologna throughout production.
