Got the front brakes apart, cleaned, new pads, and back together, new rubber front and rear and wheels back on, and got it inspected/registered. Ah... what a comfy, satisfying bike. Engine sounds awesome and pulls like crazy (up to about 80 mph). Tons of torque. I could use about 30 more HP in the upper end of the band to pass moronic cagers at high speeds, but that's not really what this bike is for.

Only things that keep me from 100% satisfaction within its realm of intended use:
1. Lean angle is ridiculously limited... I'm on my second set of footpegs and these are already filed to knife-edges on the outside
2. Suspension is woefully inadequate. Like ridiculously bad.

But for moderate- to slightly-above-legal-speed two-up riding on good roads...  Cool  Thumbsup Inlove

My brother-in-law has a yeller one.  He said it's the only bike people see him on.

We talked to a GL1800 guy at a COG rally in West Virginia.  He ran a taller rear tire for more lean clearance, but there is only so much you can do with such a wide bike.  That's what the torque is for (catching up in the straights).   Inlove

You'd be surprised what cagers are capable of not seeing.  Crazy

Yeh, I just put a 170 section on mine (stock is 160). Can't really tell much of a difference, though it does lean over farther on the kickstand.  Lol

That 70 series rear tire will also correct the speedo error.

What brand tires did you put on?  I preferred the Avon Venoms - they stuck like glue.

Bridgestone Exedras. They worked for the last set so I got more... they were relatively cheap, and grip hasn't been an issue on this bike so far.

I did love Avons on my harleys though.  Thumbsup

Nice

I didn't really have a cornering clearance issue with my 1800, but maybe you are a lot fatter than me?

 Razz

Suspension does royally suck for a top o the line flagship bike.  I found mine very harsh, especially the fork.

Agree with the +30 hp statement.  I always wondered why the Wing made so little powah.  Seriously.  6 cylinders, 1800cc, fuel injection, liquid cooled and only 110 hp/120ftlb torque?

I'm thinking it was a deliberate move as the average owner is, umm, up in age, and may not be able to handle arm ripping acceleration.

LOVE the color  Lol

It's expensive but you can cure the cornering clearance and suspension issues with a Traxxion Dynamics fork and shock/spring upgrade.
With this change the bike is capable of keeping up with most folks on sportier touring bike even when 2 up - or in our case 3 up with our pup Smile

Durability and ease of maintenance had to factor in.

I think a 6 cylinder liquid cooled 1800cc motor will be plenty durable at 160hp.  Seeing that 1000cc motors make that and hold together. They made maintenance worse compared to the 1200 and 1500 series of Wings by removing the 'maintenance free' hydraulic valve lifters and going to shims.  Even though the intervals are 36K miles.
