I plan on leaving Winston-Salem next Friday (July 29) and hitting the road for a few days.  Friday night I'll be in Asheville.  Saturday night I'll be the the Iron Horse Resort near Fontana Dam.  Sunday night I'll be in Bristol, TN.  And Monday I'll be headed home.

My route is pretty much the BRP, Cherohala, and the Dragon Friday and Saturday with planned excursions on Forest Service Roads (70% paved 30% unpaved).

If anyone would like to hook up in the evenings for a beer, I'd like to meet you.

PM me for my cell.

Thanks.

I'm near Bristol.  Time of arrival and where are you planning on stopping?

I can't say I can come out, but let me know when and where and I'll check if I can swing it.

Sweet, this may be shaping up well (except for Jack terrorizing the area next week).

I am not sure of my times yet, I'll be exploring roads most of the day.

Regarding "a beer,"  it can be for more than one.   Lol  Heck, how 'bout dinner?

Jack, I'm trying to come out of my shell a little.   Bigsmile

Doug,

Just an FYI. Bele Chere in downtown Asheville starts Friday.
http://www.belecherefestival.com/index.htm

The area will be packed with people and the downtown area will be off limits to vehicles starting Friday at about noon.

Not a show stopper just an FYI that you and 300000 other people are coming to Asheville. Banana

Yes.  That's why you suck.

For the record, as long as YOU are on a bike and I am not, you will continue to suck.  FYI, you will have a short reprieve from "the suck" in September, then you will resume again.

Thanks for the heads up.  I wasn't going to pre book a hotel but I did just now thanks to you.   Thumbsup

I'm not sure what time I'll be rolling into town on Friday.  But, I would like to hook up.  I'll be staying out near the mall.  The next day I'll be headed to the Cherohala and the Dragon.  But, being on the Adventure, I'm going to do Heintooga Ridge Road (dirt) outside of Maggie Valley and I'm going to run the entire set of Forest Service Roads (dirt) running parallel to the Cherohala one way and take the paved Skyway on the way back.   Bigsmile

Signed,

The Suck

Looks like a GREAT route, and I'm particularly happy to see that you're exploring a "certain" section, lol.

Very jealous of the dirt route alongside the Cherohala, I never rode that.  Now I'll have to.

Dinner/drinks Friday sounds good.  Maybe some riding on Saturday too.  It would be nice to hit a restaurant downtown, but with BeleChere happening, that is way out of the question.  We'll have the social coordinator come up with something...  Look forward to seeing you.

Mike has my cell number and hotel info.  I look forward to hooking up with you two.

Riding on Saturday for me starts with the BRP down to near the end followed by a gravel road up into the Smokies down into Cherokee.  Next, I plan to go tackle the 48 miles of dirt following the Cherohala.

Sounds good.

Oh yeah, the ride from Franklin to Highlands is nice up the Cullasaja gorge, but traffic will be miserable all down 64.  If you want to do more sport-TOURING then it will be OK, but don't plan on doing SPORT-touring through there...  We can hit some of those roads on your next trip.
