I am going to be riding the blue ridge parkway in a couple of weeks and was wondering if anyone had suggestions of good campgrounds to stay at along the way.  Don't have to be motorcycle oriented but would be cool if they was.

Never stayed here personally, but I have heard good things and am planning to try it in the spring.

Here's a place that sounds worth trying:

I found it on this page for Two Wheels Only, which I've stayed at and enjoyed immensely. Too bad it's closed now.

Reminded me of a recent BRP motorcycle trip.  There are a few campsites mentioned in here.  Julian Price isn't mentioned but is very nice too.

This place was recommended to me by some other riders, just off the BRP. I'm glad I took their advice, it was like staying with family. Make sure to order your breakfast bisuits the night before, worth the $2. Highly recommended.

I've stayed there a couple times now, and it's a pretty awesome place. IIRC, it's about 45 minutes or so from the BRP though.

Looking at the map, those 45 minutes are spent moving directly toward the tail of the dragon. Time well spent in my opinion  Bigsmile.

I didn't realize it was that far from the BRP. Still on my to do list though.

We stayed at Willville Campground last month. We'll be back in September for Twin Valley Rally. My favorite campground is Mt Pisgah on the BRP. There is a new rest room with a shower that is very nice. I love the restaurant and the view from the restaurant. There is lots of good riding off the BRP from there. We daytripped to Carolina Smokehouse in Cashiers, NC and Warwoman Road in Clayton, GA. 215 and 276 off the BRP are also nice.

Stayed there once and hated it. Expensive and had a church camp feel to it. NTTAWWT. But, the clincher was that it's in Graham County, the last dry county in NC. Nearest alcohol is in Bryson City, 19 miles away. I had a 2 night reservation and fortunately was able to get out of the second night. I don't patronize dry counties.

A big ++ for BlueRidge Motorcycle Campground, and for Willville, both are excellent. I've camped at the Ironhorse but I really don't like it.

I stayed  at Blue Ridge Motorcycle Campground for a couple of nights in May.   Tents or cabins.  Lots of reasons to like it.  I will stay there again when in that area.

We took a trip up the BRP earlier this year.  We had intended to stay at the Mt Mitchel state park, but we moved the date several times due to bad weather and they did not have availability when we finally got a good weekend of weather.  We ended up staying at the Black Mountain Campground.  http://maps.google.com/maps/place?rlz=1T4ADFA_enUS378US379&um=1&ie=UTF-8&q=black+mountain+campground+nc&fb=1&gl=us&hq=black+mountain+campground&hnear=0x88541fc4fc381a81:0xf6d0f68fd5937aec,North+Carolina&cid=1377642886018939786  We still went by Mount Mitchel and apparently it has been hit by a storm sometime recently and didn't look like a place I wanted to stay.

In short the Black Mountain campground is fantastic.  The people are fantastic. (Offered me a tarp for my bike since I left mine at home.  Hauled fire wood to my site for me.  And were just a joy to meet.  )  I plan to stay there again on my next ride up the BRP.

Well I finnally got time to post about the trip.  We camped at wilville one night, Blue Ridge one night and the Ironhorse three nights.  Wilville was nice but not many ammenities.  Blue Ridge was very nice.  I liked how they had a microwave to heat up some supper.  But my favorite was the Ironhorse.  Nice pavillion with AC to watch tv and relax at night, and great location to many good roads.

i had to laugh t this, sorry Sad  who goes camping to sit in the ac and watch tv?  that's just wrong  Thumbsdown  bluridge mc campground has always been great, but willville is my favorite.  coffee in the morning, coolers and ice,  ice creame, popcorn, tiki torches, pavilian if needed, large fire ring and free firewood,  large and clean restroms...each to his own they say.
