Have a chance to buy a clean ST4S with 13,600 miles.  Just serviced.  Lot's of extras, (corbin seat, pazzo levers, carbon bits, motolights, full termi exhuast, RAM mount for GPS, throttle meister, zero gravity screen.)  Offerred $6400 and accepted but then found out there was no red key.  Would you buy and if so how much to offer now??

I would maybe ask a few more hundred off that price, but the red key isn't a big deal to me.

Thanks for the reply.  He was asking $6980 and looking at the few listings on cycletrader $5600 already seems pretty low.  But it doesn't hurt to try.  It is real hard to figure out exactly what problems I might run into without the red key but some internet posts indicate it is needed to reprogram the ECU or reset the immobilizer if it malfunctions.  He does have the Key Code Card and there is a way to reset the bike manually but I don't know if that will work if the clocks or electrical system malfunctions

Not to jinx it, but I never had any issues with my ST3.  There are several folks in here who have owned an ST4/ST4S, so hopefully they speak up to confirm/deny electronic issues

That's right (ECU and immobilizer).  I think the weakest link in that related group of parts is the instrument cluster.  You should make sure you can cycle through all of the trip computer functions (e.g. miles to empty, avg speed, etc.)

Well, just couldn't pass on a bike that speaks to me so much.  Bought the bike for $6000 OTD including road use tax and tags.  Just listening to the full Termi exhaust would be worth almost that much.  Offered the owner extra dollars if he finds the red key latter.  My mechanic is working on the bike now. ( 15/43 supersprox, shorai LFX battery, HID light conversion, and garmin 665 wiring)  First long ride will be in September through Lexington Virginia.  Thanks for the replies  Will post pics when bike is back in my garage.

Turns out the owner found the red key.  Offerred to pay him $300 for it when buying the bike and am actually glad to
part with the money for the security of having it and eventual resale.  Will post pics when bike back from mechanic.
Pictures of bike probably still in carolinaeuro.com used ducati section.

I am interested in the conversion and if it works well with the ST's headlight.  Please post the results and congrats! Bigok

Got the kit specifically for the ST4S from   http://www.hidsrus.com/ducati-st4s-xenon-kits-lights-conversions-headlights-bulbs/
Will let you know how the conversion goes.  The bike had motolights on it already but also sprung for the LED bulbs so this puppy
should light up the road.
