Buddy at work gets new bike
«
on:
July 25, 2011, 09:49:55 AM »
A friend at work has been eyeing the new Z1000 and the CB1000R for the last month. Last week it seems like we spent hours discussing the pros and cons of each and today he rode up on this.
(would have been my choice too I think).
This guy has been riding cruisers for the past 15 years. His current ride is a Shadow 750 decked out with a ton of chrome. So far he loves the CB1000R, doesn't have a single complaint. Cant believe how much power it has
Picked it up at Huntington Beach Honda? For a couple hundred over MSRP OTD.

Cool platform. I like it.
I'd tidy up the back, loose the mirrors somehow, get a new pipe and and and...
I think that woudl be a blast if it was modded a bit.

This guy has been riding cruisers for the past 15 years.
he might need to know how to avoid wheelies, which I assume that bike will do at any given moment.

It does look nice. How do those mufflers avoid roasting the legs of a passenger? Looks like a potential issue - after all, Honda seems to design at least one fatal flaw in every one of their new bikes these days.

A guy I know from the local forum bought one and loves it. He's trying to slow down in his old age. He's a white haired grandfather that still wheelies regularly and takes curves at triple the cautionary signs.
He sold his Repsol and track bike to buy it. He still has his XR650R motard for the track.
I hope I'm still going strong like that at that age.

Nice looking ride, a long way from the cruiser he had, see if you can get him in a MSC or at least give him some pointers

I can't slight him for his choice. I bet it's a super nice bike especially compared to what he's been riding. I'd have given him an extra
for buying the Kawasaki though.
I see a fender eliminator and exhaust in his future...

A really nice, exciting design from Honda (don't read that sentence too often, eh?). I hope that he gets a fender eliminator and a more comfortable seat!

Agreed, mine is a whole lot more 'standard' UJM and the new CB1000R is a lot more sporty and track oriented. They de-tuned the motor a lot less and gave it much better suspenders than my 919. Hell, on my 919 I don't even have adjustable forks.
Because the 1000 is less 'UJM' than the 919 I think the 919 makes a better 'sport-touring' rig, but maybe the aftermarket will have some great luggage options for it in the future.
