Downsizing

Traded in the SV1K for a DRZ400S. Has anyone else made a similarly crazy move?

As soon as my wife is no longer interesting in touring, the XX is getting swapped for an adventure type bike.

Too much plains/prairie around here to go as small as a 400 though

"Downsizing" isn't crazy. There are many types of motorcycles and riding to experience. The crazy part is not trying different things.

opposite; went from a XR350R to a 919.

I miss the big dirt machine though and would add a DS to the garage keeping the 919.

FWIW, I didn't get rid of the XR, it was stolen.  I would have kept that bike until it gave up the ghost.

I traded in a Tiger 1050 for a Street Triple R 675.  

It didn't feel much like downsizing.  More like right-sizing.

didn't really downsize, but added a 990 adventure to the C garage, I find the CBR being ridden less and less
sure feels faster when I do ride it though

I just got a 2011 650 KLR, while keeping my 1150 RT BMW. The KLR is about 150 #'s lighter, 60 hp less, but an absolute blast to ride It seems to ride smoother around town than the BMW. The BMW feels real front end heavy & slow turning after riding the KLR for a couple of days. I thought I had 2 flat tires after a week on the KLR I will be spending much more time on the KLR this fall.

A Connie owner thinking about downsizing as soon as I can afford to do so. I had my heart set on a Connie 14, but I'm really tired of big 700 lb pigs, fast and nice as they are.
Plus the Connie 14 eats front tires like a fat kid eats Twinkies.

What convinced me is an 80 mile ride on an F800ST. Nice to ride something with some serious pep that only weighs 420 lbs, and feels completely
glued to the road. Bitchin' little BMW those things are. Surprised there's not more love for the bike here. I was shocked at how much power the little 800 twin put out.

That said, I'd really like me a big dual sport. GS1200 or KTM990. The roads up here in PA are getting really bouncy and sucky.
I'm sure the big GS would smooth that out for me.

Poofy if you ever get a chance to get your butt on an F800ST give it a whirl. A friend of mine bought it for his wife, and got the low suspension model.
What a sweet, sweet little machine it is.

For some reason I thought you had an SV650? I've been away from this site for years, though, and my brain is now old and rotten. I still miss my 250R, too.

If you're as wee as your picture implies, I just cannot imagine you on a GS. I'm 6'1" and my father's GS feels long in the legs to me.

Sold an FJR and bought a DR-Z S.  

But - I still have larger bikes in the stable.  I've put 12,000 miles on the DR-Z and I can say with certainty I would not use it as a primary ride unless my rides were much shorter than they tend to be.

I'm 5'1".  The F650GS twin I had was the low chassis and it was pretty bad ergonomically.  My F650GS (thumper version; not a low chassis) was actually pretty comfortable. I didn't flatfoot, of course, but I don't even flatfoot the Ninjette.

ZX6R to a WR250X.  Roads are torn up and there are too many homes to open up a sportbike anywhere around here.  Lots of gravel roads, too.  Nearest racetrack is a 4 hour drive away instead of 4 tracks within 2 hours' drive, but there is a go-kart track and 2 MX tracks within 1 hour's drive.
