I was at the Biker classic event at Spa Belgium the other week.

during the day they have a 'classic' trackday then from 8 until midnight there is a classic 4 hour endurance race.

In the pits there was a Z1300 - how we laughed.

It went out with a pack of '70-80s race bikes,  specials and Italian exotica.

If I tell you that at the end of the first lap,  it was in the lead you will probably think I was on the 12% Belgian beer.

But it was, and  still in front after 4 laps

not sure who the rider was - but he was good

great event anyway - bit like going to the Bol d'or in the late '70s

and its only an hour and a half from Nurburgring if you fancy  a go yourself (24 euro a lap)

I rode one of those for about 6 weeks back in the early 80's when I worked for a dealer. The bike was really long and heavy but it rode well and was super smooth. The engine felt like it was a giant electric motor and it sounded great. You could set the throttle lock at 90 or 100mph and it would cruise along like it was loafing. The problem in the summer was the heat. Your legs were right behind the outboard cylinders and with the lowers on your legs cooked.

It was a fun bike to have for a while. I always wondered what one would be like if you stripped all the crap off of it.
