http://www.signonsandiego.com/news/2011/jul/25/worst-roads-for-motorcycles/

Of course, the title of the news article is misleading.  It should say "Best Roads For Motorcycles".  The crash statistics clearly illustrate which are the most locally favored roads, and therefore the most heavily trafficked by bikes.  The most heavily used also inevitably means the greatest number of crashes, too.

Quote
Statistically speaking, if you are a motorcyclist, the one place you don’t want to be at 5 p.m. on a Saturday in October is the intersection of state Route 76 and Palomar Mountain Road in North County.

There were 26 motorcycle accidents there in 2009, according to the latest available statistics.

Why 5PM?

I would think it would be quiet as hell there at 5PM on Saturday.  But then again, I've never been through that intersection past 3PM.

It is quiet then.  No idea where they got that.

The 5 PM statistic may be county wide - worst part of rush hour.

At 5 PM in October the sun is going to be right in your eyes as you head west on South Grade or 76 at that intersection.

They say the intersection of 76 and Palomar. 76 is totally straight at that point, and Palomar begins there; it's a T-intersection. Sounds like some people are taking the turn without yielding to oncoming traffic. It has nothing to do with twisties, if the report is accurate, since neither road has any curves at that particular spot.

I assumed that was just the intersection of record for anything on the lower half of South Grade.  They have to call it something.

Seems as good a place as any to ask:  Was the driver or car ever located or an arrest made in the case of the near head on that took out all those Harleys about a year ago outside San Diego? I cant find anything on it.
Sorry for the semi thread jack.

One of the drivers (the one that actually plowed into the bikes) stayed at the scene and hasn't been charged as far as I know.  The other driver (the one who made the illegal pass causing the other driver to swerve) is still at large and wanted by the police.

My neighbors a CHP and said at the time they figured the guy that caused the crash escaped into mexico and that they were reviewing video at the border crossing to try to ID him. Its been a while so Im sure its all forgotten about by now and the jerk who caused the crash is back in this country with a different car....
