Apparently only HM Plant Honda & Swan Yamaha can afford to run full WSBK spec bikes now.

It's been in the planning for a while. That's why they put the Evo class together. Kind of a proof of concept, and give some of the smaller teams some time to get some experience building a non-unobtanium superbike.

Thus making the BSB series way less interesting for people like Kiyonari, Byrne and Hopper - why would an internationally-experienced rider race in this series if it's not on a WSBK-spec bike?
Although I already thought BSB was a little weird with it's top-six-go-on-to-compete-for-the-championship-based-on-podiums-not-points thing.

The series would be a lot less interesting to those kinds of riders if teams couldn't afford to field any bike either. Which way would mean the series survives?

Well technically, if they're getting podiums then they are getting more points than the non-podium finishing racers. I'm sure that's the logic behind it. I like the setting the grid for the 2nd race by your fastest lap in the 1st race way of doing things. Makes it interesting. I like the single bike rule less though.

I like that bit too. I also like the fact that I saw Jake Zemke's smiling face in a post-race interview, so the Evo class can't be all bad I guess.

They're professional racers. If they get a competitive bike and are paid well, they're happy.
